As part of our Architecture practice at HDR, you’ll contribute to the design and delivery of spaces and experiences that advance community well‑being worldwide. Our Calgary office is seeking a candidate who can use and grow their technical expertise to successfully deliver projects across diverse markets and building types, with potential to support architecture work across Water, Resource, Federal, and Building Engineering market sectors. In this role, you’ll partner with project managers to lead the planning, design, documentation, and construction administration of multiple building types, from high‑performance data centers to water treatment facilities, advanced manufacturing plants, office spaces, operations centers, and maintenance facilities. You’ll lead teams of architects, planners, designers, engineers, technical experts, and project managers to solve complex design challenges with creativity, curiosity, and collaboration, championing design excellence with resilience and sustainability, and pioneering innovative building technologies. In the role of Project Architect, we'll count on you to: Be knowledgeable in technical design concepts, code applications, design management skills, digital technologies, and design workflows for industrial-type facilities. Lead owner/client and internal meetings and participate in reviews with governing agencies for code compliance. Lead project teams with varied levels of experience to successfully complete and deliver construction documents and intermediate milestone deliverables. Manage and undertake design activities and the production of detailed documents required for construction. Independently coordinate the work of a multidisciplinary team through all phases of a project. Review architectural documents for conflicts with all disciplines. Perform QA/QC and cross‑discipline technical reviews. Write and edit architectural specifications. Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs, and change orders. Incorporate agreed‑upon changes into project documents. Provide construction observation and contract administration as needed. Conduct work sessions at the project site in conjunction with client representatives, project managers, and other disciplines. Perform other duties as needed. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Architecture. Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in industrial architecture (e.g., data centers, water treatment facilities, public utility facilities, operations centers, aerospace, manufacturing). LEED Accreditation with experience and/or interest in sustainable design. Experience leading teams and mentoring junior staff. Experience facilitating meetings with a range of stakeholders, such as engineers, client representatives, contractors, subcontractors, AHJs. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or closely related field. A minimum of 5 years experience. Registered Architect. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule). Excellent written and communication skills. Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills. Proficient in Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and processes. Demonstrated graphic presentation skills. Experience in preparation and layout of architectural contract documents and specifications. Strong knowledge of codes and good planning skills.
