The park is a cultural landscape for Cree, Dene, and Métis peoples of the region. The park works with eleven Indigenous communities, who continue to use the land for activities such as hunting, trapping, fishing, and medicinal plant and berry picking. The 260 kilometers of gravel roads and 115 kilometers of chip‑sealed highway in the park provide access to these traditional activities and form an important part of this cultural landscape. Most of these roads are the sole access routes to communities inside and around the park, the largest being Fort Smith, a community of 2,500 people. This position is an important member of the managing team and, with a small team, is accountable for the sustainability of around 200 assets including highways, visitor facilities, trails, offices, cabins, radio systems, etc. You would be responsible for the execution of a modern performance‑based operations and maintenance contract for 375 kilometers of roads in Wood Buffalo National Park. This position will also oversee the capital work program for Wood Buffalo assets, as well as the annual construction of the Winter Road to the community of Fort Chipewyan, AB.RequirementsEducation : Graduation from post‑secondary studies (minimum two‑year program) relevant to the position or an acceptable combination of education, training, experience or traditional knowledge relevant to the position.
