Position Acute Care Hospitalist - Dept of Family Medicine- Full Time & Locum Available Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) is located in Orillia, a community on Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching. Position Summary The hospitalist will provide care for designated hospital in-patients in partnership with other medical staff. They may be the most responsible physician (MRP) for these patients or involved in concurrent care with specialists. Hospitalists work with a multidisciplinary team in accordance with current clinical practice standards and use strong diagnostic and therapeutic skills for a wide range of medical conditions. Responsibilities Provide MRP coverage for designated in-patients (designated patients are “unattached” – out of area or not currently enrolled with a physician or group that does inpatient care). Provide concurrent care when requested by a specialist based on complexity. Participate in 24/7 coverage with other hospitalists. Contribute to multidisciplinary clinical utilization and communicate effectively with care team members to facilitate transfer of patient care. Ensure reviews, meetings and consultations with team, patients and families are daily, regular and ongoing. Act as a preceptor for medical trainees to develop inpatient acute care skills. Ensure case conferences for complex multi-morbid patients include primary care and receiving agencies. Communicate discharge plans to the receiving community physician or nurse practitioner to optimize continuity of care (discharge summaries dictated on the day of discharge). Use the Electronic Medical Record to its full capacity; seek additional training as required. Consistently use available order sets electronically as appropriate. Participate in education to support accurate and comprehensive coding practices. Develop competency with Dragon Medical One voice transcription when available. Exemptions The Acute Care Hospitalists may opt in to the rotation for providing normal newborn care with current applicable training and experience; however, it is not an assigned duty. Remuneration Full Line: $5,800 stipend + FFS (census goal 25 patients) Half Line: $2,900 stipend + FFS (census goal 13 patients) Some weeks qualify for up to $150/day accommodation reimbursement Details Mentorship support available 1-week blocks (preferred) with frequency chosen by the physician Overnight call 11pm–7am; 1–2 nights of call per week EMR: Citrix Cerner (Powerchart) 2 NPs with MRP status, Psych Hospitalist model All admissions completed by Emergency Physicians Specialist Support General surgery, closed ICU with 10 beds, psychiatry unit (25 in-patient mental health beds, 4 extra care beds), Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Respirology, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, Cardiac Care Clinic, Level 2c obstetrical center with Level 2 nursery. Investigation Modalities Lab, MRI, ultrasound, X-ray, CT, nuclear medicine and interventional radiology. Qualifications Open to Family Medicine and Internal Medicine physicians. CPSO unrestricted license that allows the physician to fulfill the requirements of this position. ACLS preferred.
