The Opportunity We are seeking a Fire Safety Specialist to ensure that comprehensive fire safety processes and procedures are in place for all communities within our portfolio. This role involves collaborating with the property management team to develop, implement, and maintain fire safety plans, including drills, system testing, and inspections, in full compliance with provincial fire and safety codes. As the Fire Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for assisting in fire safety training throughout the employee base and regularly liaise with team members, contractors, and Fire Prevention Officers in various municipalities throughout Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and best practices. This role requires a mandatory full-time-in-office schedule (5 days/week). Compensation $50,000 - $65,000 annually. Responsibilities will include: Fire Safety Plans and Inspections: Conduct regular reviews of fire logbooks in collaboration with Property Managers and Fire Prevention Officers to ensure compliance with required checks, tests, and inspections, and verify accurate record‑keeping. Review annual inspections with property team members to identify and address any issues or deficiencies. Assist in organizing and conducting fire drills as mandated by the Ontario Fire Code (OFC). Annually review and update individual fire safety plans, in partnership with Property Managers, including: Identification of tenants requiring assistance. Coordinate with contractors to facilitate the installation of new units, equipment, panel upgrades, and other necessary changes. Develop new fire safety plans for major new builds or renovations in collaboration with the organization’s design department, ensuring compliance with relevant fire safety regulations and standards. Fire Safety Equipment and Compliance: Work with Property Managers to review annual equipment inspection reports and assist in determining required scope of work and pricing of deficiencies. Act as a member of the Company Acquisition Team to review condition of fire safety equipment and processes for new building purchases. Assist the construction department in modernization plans impacting fire safety including upgrading existing units, installing new units, and elevator modernizations. Liaise with various Municipal Fire Prevention Officers for inspections, clarification of Ontario Fire Code and/or Local Bylaw enforcement; work with Property Managers to follow up on deficiency orders as required. Training and Communication: Plan and lead fire safety training programs for team members, including delivering workshops and presentations, ensuring all team members receive regular and comprehensive training to maintain compliance and safety standards. Assist in the identification of relevant third‑party fire and life safety courses. Coordinate required fire safety communications with Property Managers and Regional Property Managers. Required Skills In-depth knowledge of Ontario Fire Code (OFC), the BC Fire Code, and the Quebec Safety Code requirements, guidelines and regulations, with an appreciation for the technical, electrical, and mechanical requirements of multi‑residential buildings. Familiar with ULC Standards applicable to fire alarm systems, as well as NFPA 13 standards. Basic understanding of workplace health and safety, per WSIB regulations and procedures, including WHMIS. Superior communication skills, both written and oral. Strong presentation skills, with training experience. Team player, able to work effectively with team members from all levels of the organization. Education and Qualifications A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Fire Safety. CFI‑I designation is ideal. Post‑secondary education in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field is an asset. Apprenticeship or completion of Fire Alarm Technician program. Working Conditions Ability to travel as required , including site visits, inspections, training sessions, and meetings across multiple locations.
