Effective date: September 1, 2026 Salary: $63,347–$116,190 (range based on length of service and qualifications) Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience Extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching at the secondary level across all areas of this assignment. Knowledge of, and demonstrated application of, the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment. Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators. Degree or major in Home Economics. Preference given to applicants who hold a BC or Inter‑Provincial Trade qualification in a related field. Canadian FoodSafe Level 1 certification required. Proven ability to create hands‑on, cross‑curricular learning environments and activities that support engagement and motivation. Proven ability to devise and use a variety of assessment processes that allow students to demonstrate their learning. Proven ability to organize and manage an effective and safe Foods program. Proven ability to use formative assessment strategies and develop appropriate instructional strategies for all assignment areas. Proven ability to incorporate a variety of technology within the classroom to enhance learning. Proven ability to adapt or modify curriculum for students experiencing difficulties. Proven ability to differentiate instruction for a variety of developmental stages and ability levels. Demonstrated sensitivity, awareness, and understanding of adolescent development and enthusiasm for working with young adolescents. Familiarity with and support for a restorative approach to student discipline. Proven ability to incorporate a wide range of effective classroom management strategies to resolve discipline problems while maintaining the dignity of young adolescents. Evidence of personal initiative and strong work ethic, with a proven ability to collaborate as an effective team member.
