The Security Lead provides leadership, coordination, and oversight of all security functions at the remote camp, ensuring safety of personnel, protection of assets, regulatory compliance, and preparedness for emergencies. The Security Lead acts as the primary point of contact for internal and external security matters, including law enforcement, and develops systems and processes that proactively mitigate security risks. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain, and enforce comprehensive security policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) tailored to camp operations. Conduct threat, risk, and vulnerability assessments (TRAs/SVAs) for camp facilities, access points, equipment, and personnel. Maintain access control systems, perimeter security, intrusion detection, and visitor screening protocols. Ensure alignment with relevant legal, regulatory, and client security requirements (including privacy, human rights, local / regional security regulations). Plan, assign, and monitor 24-hour duties, patrols, and shift schedules for security staff. Oversee verification of identities, issuance of security badges, management of keys / card access, and control of entry/exit points. Supervise incident detection, response, reporting, and follow-up (investigations, remediation, record keeping). Coordinate with local law enforcement, emergency services, health & safety teams for incident escalation, crisis response, and disaster preparedness. Train security personnel in conflict de-escalation, emergency response, site-specific hazards, and human rights / cultural sensitivity. Conduct drills and emergency simulations (fire, evacuation, intrusion, severe weather, etc.) to ensure readiness. Provide mentorship, performance feedback, and coaching to security staff to maintain high standards of professionalism, ethics, and behaviour. Maintain accurate and timely incident reports, access logs, inspection reports, and security performance logs. Monitor compliance with internal and external audits, corrective actions, and recommendations. Participate in safety meetings, risk reviews, and contribute to operational planning. Identify opportunities to improve security effectiveness, efficiency, or reliability, including adoption of new technologies or refining procedures. Develop and maintain emergency response plans: evacuation, medical emergencies, fire, natural disasters, security breaches. Be a part of or lead crisis management team as needed. Ensure communication protocols are in place with camp management, Health & Safety, and external agencies if appropriate. Ensure that all security gear, PPE, etc. (e.g. radios, flashlights, protective equipment) are functional, clean, and properly stored. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS Minimum 5+ years of experience in security leadership; military, law enforcement, or private security at industrial / mining / remote facility preferred. Valid security certifications / licenses appropriate to jurisdiction (security guard license, supervisory credentials, etc.). Certifications in First Aid / CPR, possibly advanced safety / emergency training. Strong knowledge of physical security systems: CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, perimeter protection. Competency in conducting and interpreting threat/risk assessments, creating mitigation plans. Leadership skills: ability to supervise, train, motivate staff in remote, challenging environments. Excellent communication skills (oral and written), report writing, able to liaise with external authorities. Capacity to work shifts including nights, weekends, rotations (often remote camp life schedule). Ability to operate under pressure, make quick decisions in emergencies. Personal traits: integrity, reliability, good judgement, cultural sensitivity, strong safety mindset. Remote camp life: rotational schedule (e.g. 2-week on / 2-week off; or 3/3; or similar). Must be able to travel to and live on site; accommodations may be basic, with communal facilities. Physical demands: walking patrols, possibly standing for long periods, climbing or stairs, occasionally working in all weather conditions. Drug and Alcohol Testing required.
