What You'll Do As an experienced litigator, you’ll apply your legal skills and experience to represent the interests of Sentry insureds by defending claims made under insurance policies. The ideal candidate for this position will be located in the East Bay, San Jose, or Sacramento area. Depending on qualifications and experience, this position can be filled at either a Trial Attorney or Senior Trial Attorney Level. As a Trial Attorney, you'll apply your legal skills and experience to represent the interests of Sentry insureds. In addition, you will: Represent the interest of the insured and Sentry in defending claims, ensuring that there is no conflict of interest between the policyholder and Sentry. Handle a full caseload of minimally to moderately complex matters representing insureds up to, and including, through trial. Communicate and report to policyholders and claims associates on the progress of litigation, strategy, and evolution of matters. Assist in preparing forms for use throughout the department including, but not limited to, pleadings, discovery, jury instructions, dispositive motions, and correspondence. As a Senior Trial Attorney, in addition to the responsibilities of a Trial Attorney, you will: Handle a full caseload from minimal to highly complex matters through trial. Handle pleadings, motion practice, depositions, written discovery, expert witness retention and discovery, dispositive motions, and trial preparation and presentation with minimal oversight. Conduct examinations under oath, sworn statements, and similar non‑litigated matters as may be necessary. What It Takes Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor Degree 2+ years of related work experience Experience taking/defending depositions, court appearances, and retaining expert witnesses Valid license to practice law, in good standing, in the state of California Successful ability to deal with people where conflict and controversy exist Ability to self‑manage and operate as an attorney with a full caseload and minimal daily oversight Bilingual preferred What You'll Receive Flexibility through a scheduled Hybrid work model: Monday and Friday work from home (optional); Tuesday through Thursday in office.
