The Village of Wentworth Heights located in Hamilton, Ontario has an exciting opportunity for a Horticultural Therapist - Independent Contractor to join their team. Contract Position Details: 7.5hrs/week | Mondays or Wednesdays Location: 1620 Upper Wentworth St, Hamilton, ON L9B 2W3 Pay Rate: $25/hour Start Date: May 2026 To be successful as our new Horticulture Therapist, you will: Be enrolled in or completed a Degree in Horticulture Therapy or equivalent Completed the required 480 hours of internship Be an eligible member of the Canadian Horticulture Therapy Association Be excited by our objectives, our Village philosophy and the family values that shape all aspects of life in a Schlegel Village Display a caring and respectful attitude toward our residents, families, and team members It would be an asset if our new HorticulturalTherapist has: Previous experience working with seniors is an asset Knowledge of therapy practices, methods, techniques and opportunities to improve resident's well-being and holistic health An understanding of the relevant sections of the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007 As a new Horticulture Therapist, you will: Support and embrace our resident-centered social culture and be proud to deliver the highest quality of recreational programming to our residents. You will work as key members of our Village and neighbourhood multidisciplinary teams to understand residents' individual needs, and advocate for residents to actively participate in decisions about their care. The Horticulture Therapist at Schlegel Villages fosters exemplary relationships with residents, their families and the Village team to deliver holistic care that focuses on flexible living and quality of life. Our Horticultural Therapist will plan gardening-based activities, either on a per-session basis or incorporated into a larger curriculum. Providing hands on experiences for our residents including, but not limited to planting seeds and caring for plants both indoors and outside. In combination with the Recreation Team, the Horticulture Therapist can support our residents to learn, grow, find life purpose and meaning. The team plans and implements programs that contribute to a resident's holistic health care goals, as outlined in Care Plans (including RAI MDS-Raps, Coding and Activities Initial Assessment), by encouraging physical, emotional, spiritual, social and cognitive growth for residents.
