Your Opportunity Stantec’s Prairies and Territories Environmental Services group is currently seeking a Senior Environmental Planner to work with our Assessment and Permitting team. This role supports environmental review and licensing, an increasingly critical component of development projects across Canada and globally. We are looking for a motivated, collaborative team player who is passionate about making a positive impact on the environment. The team is based across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. The role can be based in Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Yellowknife or Winnipeg offices, with Saskatoon as the preferred location. Key Responsibilities Act as an internal subject matter expert on regulatory requirements related to the approval and construction of mining projects within western Canada, Northwest Territories and Nunavut Lead a project team of discipline experts Drive project delivery with a key focus on efficient execution, project controls, and safety Use sound judgement to solve and manage risks associated with project support activities Work in a collaborative team of technical environmental specialists to lead the approval and permitting process Lead proposals, pre-qualified assessments, and relationship building with existing and prospective clients Prepare and review environmental assessments, regulatory applications and technical submissions Communicate and collaborate with other environmental and regulatory specialists to ensure consistency in project execution Support the development and mentorship of junior and intermediate staff Participate in team and independent based work Support and ensure implementation of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies, procedures, standards and guidelines in the execution of all work and coordinate with HSE professionals during the execution of all project phases Capabilities and Experience Direct experience leading or supporting projects in western Canada, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, or Yukon Strong understanding of provincial, territory and federal regulations, environmental assessment processes, permitting requirements and construction planning needs Experience in, or a solid understanding of, the consulting industry in a multidisciplinary environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work with initiative, professionalism and confidentiality, multi-task and adapt to change in a very dynamic environment Strong attention to detail Proven problem-solving skills and innovative thinking Committed to providing quality deliverables in a timely manner Ability and desire to coach and mentor less experienced staff Leadership experience and commitment to Stantec values including inclusion and diversity Previous Consulting Experience Preferred Education and Experience A bachelor’s degree in the Sciences, Environmental Studies or relevant Engineering field. A Master’s degree (or master’s degree in progress) is an asset. Preferred but not necessary, holding or eligibility to obtain a relevant professional designation (e.g., P. Bio, R.P.F., P.Ag, EP, P.Eng). A minimum of 12 years of environmental and regulatory related experience in the mining sector. A valid driver’s license.
