Kingston, ON | Part-Time / Casual Contract | Incorporated Contractor Preferred Our client is seeking a Structural Engineer or Building Envelope Engineer to provide part-time contract support for project site reviews in the Kingston, Ontario area. This is a flexible opportunity suited to an independent consultant, incorporated engineer, sole practitioner, semi-retired engineer, or experienced technical professional who is interested in casual project-based work over the next several months. The work will involve attending active construction and restoration sites, reviewing exterior wall and cladding-related work, documenting field observations, and completing standard site review reports within 24–48 hours of each visit. The ideal candidate will have a background in structural engineering, building envelope consulting, façade restoration, cladding systems, EIFS, exterior wall assemblies, or construction review. Experience with EIFS — Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems — would be a strong asset. While a professional engineering designation is preferred, the client may also consider a technically strong candidate with relevant field review, building envelope, cladding, restoration, or construction inspection experience. The Opportunity This is not a full-time role. It is intended for someone who can provide dependable, professional, part-time support on an as-needed basis. You will act as the client’s local technical representative on project sites, reviewing visible construction progress, documenting observations, and identifying potential concerns related to exterior cladding, EIFS, building envelope interfaces, waterproofing, substrate conditions, installation quality, and general construction conformance. There may also be occasional opportunities to assist with similar work in the Ottawa area, depending on your location, availability, and technical background. Responsibilities Attend project sites in the Kingston area to complete periodic field reviews Review exterior cladding, EIFS, façade, and related building envelope work Observe and document construction progress, workmanship, deficiencies, and site conditions Take clear field notes and photographs Communicate professionally with site supervisors, trades, contractors, consultants, and client representatives Complete standard observation reports within 24–48 hours of each site visit Identify visible issues related to cladding installation, detailing, sealants, transitions, penetrations, substrates, moisture management, or structural/interface concerns Escalate technical issues to the project team as required Represent the client in a professional and technically credible manner on site Ideal Background The client is looking for someone with experience in one or more of the following areas: Building envelope consulting Exterior wall systems Building restoration or rehabilitation Construction field review Waterproofing, sealants, masonry, or exterior assemblies Condition assessments or site observation reporting Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will be: A licensed P.Eng., structural engineer, building envelope engineer, or experienced technical reviewer Comfortable working independently on active construction sites Professional and credible when dealing with contractors and site personnel Strong in written reporting and documentation Practical, observant, and detail-oriented Able to identify and clearly communicate field concerns Available for casual / part-time assignments over the next several months Willing to work as an incorporated contractor or independent consultant Based in or able to service Kingston, with Ottawa availability considered an asset Location: Kingston, Ontario Additional work: Possible Ottawa-area assignments Type: Casual contract / project-based Structure: Incorporated contractor preferred Duration: Several months, with potential for ongoing project work Reporting: Client report template provided Turnaround: Reports required within 24–48 hours after site visits Why This Role This is a strong opportunity for an experienced structural or building envelope professional who wants flexible contract work without taking on a full-time position.
