Reporting to the District Manager, the Chief Estimator is responsible for overseeing all estimating operations within a business unit. This includes supervising the estimating process by developing divisional manpower, coaching/mentoring, providing input into project pursuit approvals, overseeing allocation of estimating resources, reviewing estimates, and managing tender closings/pursuit submissions. Responsibilities of Chief Estimator: Encourage and instill coaching and mentoring skills to the estimating team. Oversee all estimates, including detailed review of others’ work. Complete project scope of work reviews to ensure estimates are complete and all technical specifications, subcontractor scopes, and general condition items are quantified and costed. Identify and develop constructability requirements for high-level budgeting. Propose and approve project risk and cost mitigation strategies, as well as opportunities for cost savings. Propose and approve bid strategies, constructability requirements, and innovations to increase bidding success. Provide leadership for the estimating team on major complex projects. Build effective relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of contract language and legal contract requirements. Excellent technical, organizational, managerial, and planning skills. Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills. Ability to assist in determining bid strategies. Advanced communication and collaborative skills, with a thorough understanding of company objectives. Strategic thinking and innovative problem-solving abilities. Experience with various delivery methods including Bid-Build, Design-Build, Construction Management, and IPD. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Experience and Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher; Gold Seal Certification, LEED Accreditation, LEAN experience, MRICS, and CIQS are assets. Over 15 years of field and estimating experience, with at least 5 years in senior estimating roles with medium-to-large General Contractors. Leadership experience in roads, bridges, rail, or other infrastructure projects. Experience in Water/Wastewater and Transit projects is an asset. Proven leadership in managing and mentoring teams on Level 3+ projects. Proficiency in design-build and other procurement methods. Our Client guarantees: Strong commitment to workplace safety.
