What the internship focuses on The project will emphasize CFD prediction and validation of NOx emissions in gas turbine engines. Responsibilities Prepare combustion chamber geometry using ANSYS CAD tools. Mesh geometry using ANSYS meshing tools. Review NOx prediction models in open literature and compare them to models implemented in ANSYS Fluent. Perform combustion CFD simulations in ANSYS Fluent with a primary focus on predicting NOx emissions. Review combustor NOx data measured on engines to understand key variables and measurement details. Execute CFD simulations with existing NOx models in ANSYS Fluent and compare predictions to engine data. Implement a new NOx model from the literature survey in ANSYS Fluent. Summarize and present findings. Document the findings in a report. What You Will Learn Gas turbine engine combustion system components and function. Gaseous emissions. CFD improvement and validation processes. Pratt & Whitney Canada’s engine portfolio. Teamwork and group dynamics. Qualifications Eligible to work in Canada. Enrolled in a Canadian university throughout the internship. Able to work on‑site in the province where hired. Master/PhD candidate in Mechanical, Aerospace, Engineering Physics, or Chemical Engineering. Proficiency in ANSYS CAD tools (SpaceClaim, Design Modeler, or Discovery). Proficiency in ANSYS mesh generators (Fluent Mesher or ANSYS Workbench Mesher). Proficiency in ANSYS Fluent or other combustion CFD codes such as OpenFOAM. Solid understanding of fluid mechanics, multiphase flows, and combustion sciences. Proficiency in C/C++, Python, and MATLAB programming. Assets Exposure to combustion CFD. Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently as well as in a team. The selected candidate will be required to complete a criminal background check and any applicable clearances with respect to the handling and transfer of controlled goods. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of these checks and obtaining the required clearances. Failure to do so will result in the withdrawal of the employment offer. The salary range for this role is 31.00 CAD to 33.30 CAD. This range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
