Project Specialist II (Building Products) Location:Remote (Canada) — If located close to QAI’s offices (Toronto, ON or Burnaby, BC), the role would be in‑office.Salary Range:$65,000 to $80,000 annually.DutiesPlan review drawings and documents relating to buildings to determine compliance with the relevant Building Codes and standards.Become familiar with the Building Codes of Canada, National Plumbing Code, National Gas Code, and the Canadian Electrical Code.Write concise, detailed, accurate, and objective reports.Travel throughout Canada and the USA to perform inspections at manufacturing sites.Perform testing, witness testing, prepare reports, or review reports to evaluate building products to nationally recognized building safety standards (CSA, UL, ASTM, etc.).Review building codes to identify building product requirements, write test plans, evaluate construction products to code requirements, and write concise evaluation reports.Assist clients with determining the applicable requirements for their products and/or the evaluation needed to validate compliance when a product is modified.Assist with the design and construction of testing jigs and test sample assemblies. Document construction methods and results of tests/inspections.Perform product inspections and product sampling at client sites which may involve travel throughout Canada and the USA.Become familiar with and comply with the QAI quality system and administrative procedures.Write and review concise, objective, and informative reports and documents.Interact effectively and professionally with customers and colleagues, as required.Be willing to be part of an energetic team with a can‑do attitude.Other duties as assigned by the manager or its designee.QualificationsTechnical diploma or completed trades program from an accredited institution. Beneficial education: building plan reviewing, building science, plumbing/gas/electrical trades, material or mechanical engineering.Previous experience with construction materials and construction practices is a benefit.Superior MS Word and Excel skills; proficient with Email and Adobe Acrobat.Good Laboratory Practice skills essential for testing products.Strong interpersonal and communication skills in both English and French at native or near‑native proficiency level.Additional Requirements2+ years of Project Specialist or related experience.Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Engineer in Training (EIT) license required with ability to obtain P.Eng. within one year of hire if an EIT.Fluent in French at a native or near‑native proficiency level.Valid driver’s license.Valid passport, or ability to obtain one, and ability to travel to the US and international destinations.Key Technical CompetencePractical knowledge in the areas of expertise.Provide technical guidance on requirements in testing, inspection, and/or certification in the relevant field.Evaluate necessary requirements for testing, inspection, and/or certification and develop timelines that meet client and QAI needs.Meet expected timelines and grasp the concept of prioritization.Multi‑task and coordinate many activities across multiple departments, teams, and locations within the organization.Identify conformance to test, inspection, and/or certification criteria and communicate this to clients and through the organization.Additional AssetsLevel I first aid or higher.Applying QAI Laboratories offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package including base salary and bonus/commissions, medical, dental, and other perks.
