This position is responsible for operating various pieces of light and heavy equipment to maintain highways, recreational roads and airstrips to acceptable standards. Duties include assessing work to be performed, terrain, weather conditions and equipment needs; supervising and assigning work to a crew of employees to ensure maintenance activities are carried out safely, efficiently and within budget. This position is also responsible for the George Black Ferry in the summer months. Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Considerable experience operating a variety of heavy equipment (must include loader, grader, and truck) in extreme weather and snow conditions; Experience with highway maintenance and/or road construction; Experience supporting day‑to‑day operations aboard a passenger ferry Experience leading, motivating, training and directing equipment operators in a remote environment; Public interaction/relations experience including working with various regulatory bodies and stakeholders; Experience with a variety of computer programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.
