Job Description AECOM seeks a Geotechnical Engineer for a full‑time position located in the GTA, Ontario. The ideal candidate will be a senior Rock Mechanics/Geotechnical Engineer with balanced expertise in geotechnical design, site reconnaissance, geological mapping, rock mechanics, and investigations. Technical Expertise Conduct site reconnaissance and geological mapping focusing on rock mechanics and rock mass classification. Develop geologic models, profiles, and cross‑sections using AutoCAD, ArcGIS, or Leapfrog. Perform soil, rock, excavation, slope stability, and rock‑fall analyses and design mitigation measures. Plan and prepare geotechnical investigations, including in‑situ and laboratory testing, and interpret results to define design parameters. Prepare geotechnical design reports, specifications, and technical proposals. Design rock slope support for open cuts and conduct geohazard and terrain hazard assessments. Design tunnels in soft and hard ground using TBM, SEM, and SEM (Sequential Excavation Methods). Design SOE (support of excavation) systems for shafts, cut and cover tunnels. Prepare contracts for geotechnical investigations, surveys, and construction work. Software Proficiency Utilize RocScience Suite (RocFall 2D/3D, Dips, RocPlane, SWedge, RocTopple, RSData, RS2, Slide2/3 or Slope/W, and Plaxis 2D/3D). Work with AutoCAD and ArcGIS for ground model creation. (Preferred) Experience with Leapfrog for 3D geological modeling. Collaboration & Coordination Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, structural, tunneling, and hydrology experts. Liaise with contractors, clients, and local authorities to ensure project approvals and compliance. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering, Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Rock Engineering. Six years of experience in geotechnical design and numerical analysis. Proficiency in RocScience Suite, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS. Strong technical writing skills for reports, proposals, and specifications. Knowledge of geotechnical investigations, rock mechanics, and rock slope stability. Preferred Qualifications Master’s or PhD in a relevant geotechnical discipline. Knowledge of geophysical survey methods, hydrogeology, and seismic design. Experience with geotechnical design for tunnels, hydraulic structures, and terrain hazard assessments. Professional registration (P.Eng.) or working toward it. Additional Information Location: GTA, Ontario (Hybrid work model). Compensation: CAD 130,000 – 180,000 yearly, based on education, experience, and location.
