You will focus on the service layer and integration layer, connecting external systems with Shopify and other platforms. The ideal candidate has strong experience building and managing backend systems, working with APIs at scale, and delivering high-quality integration solutions.Please Note:Contractposition (hourly rate). We welcome applications from across the globe, but our preferred candidates should be able to work inEastern Standard Timezone (EST).Responsibilities:Design, develop, and maintain backend integration services connecting external systems with Shopify and other commerce platformsBuild and manage service layer and integration layer components for client projectsDevelop and consume APIs, with a focus on GraphQL (Shopify’s primary API) and RESTImplement webhooks, asynchronous processing, and scheduled job workflowsCollaborate with cross-functional teams including architects, engineers, and project managers across multiple time zonesEnsure high performance, scalability, and reliability of backend services handling high-volume transactionsParticipate in code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement of development practicesWork directly with clients to understand integration requirements and deliver solutionsRequirements:5+ years of professional Java development experienceProven track record building and managing backend systems and integration servicesProficiency working with APIs like GraphQL and REST API experience is requiredExperience with webhooks, event-driven architecture, asynchronous processing patterns, and scheduled tasksStrong understanding of Computer Science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, system design)Experience working with Git, CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker)Proficiency working with different Relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and Non-relational databases.Available to work Eastern Time (ET) hoursNice-to-Haves: The following would be bonus experience to have, though highlight any additional experience or skills you may have.
