Unix Technical Specialist Advisory Requisition ID: Unix Infra is the team supporting core Unix Infrastructure environment, managing Oracle Exadata, Symantec Storage Foundation, Cluster Services, CPS (Coordination Point Services), Samba, NIS, iDM, LDAP, mailrelay (Sentrion/PPS appliances), Centrify, LDOM, VOM (Veritas Operation Manager), Solaris patching infrastructure, OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager), ASR (Automatic Service Request) and other UNIX IT services for internal clients. Responsibilities Plan, build, deploy, maintain and monitor infrastructure to support a platform used by hundreds of internal and external clients. Provide Oracle Exadata platform support; work with DBA and Oracle for daily tasks, expansion and patching support. Perform wide range of system administration in a multi‑platform environment. Handle general systems administration tasks (Unix/Linux) including configuration management, OS installations, security updates, and urgent system patching. Write and implement scripts to automate tasks. Identify and troubleshoot hardware and service components that are problematic. Perform daily system monitoring, verify integrity and availability of hardware, server resources, and network disruptions, and predefined key processes. Review system logs, application logs, and security logs. Provide 24/7 rotational on‑call and pager support. Qualifications Open‑minded and willing to learn. Experience supporting Linux and Solaris operating systems. Experience with services managed by the team, such as Symantec Storage, Symantec Workload, and Oracle X Platform. Excellent communication and interaction skills to manage and support multiple groups and provide timely and friendly service in a critical applications support role. Experience with Ansible is a plus. Experience supporting M Series, T Series, Oracle X Platform. Programming experience with Shell and Perl. RH CSH Certification. Sun Certifications. Previous Scotiabank experience (preferred). Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering, or a related field required.
