Our client is a Canadian life insurance organization specializing in annuity solutions for pension plans, associations, and individuals. With a strong market presence and continued expansion, the company is well-positioned for long-term success. They are seeking a Legal Counsel to join their Legal and Compliance team on an 18-month contract. Reporting to senior legal leadership, this role provides broad legal support across the organization’s operations and contributes to regulatory compliance initiatives. The position offers exposure to cross‑functional teams including sales, actuarial, operations, investments, risk, and finance. Responsibilities Draft and negotiate insurance policies and related documentation with policyholders Develop templates to support the creation and distribution of insurance products Provide legal support to the operations team on policy‑related matters Assist with drafting communications, both template‑based and transaction‑specific Support regulatory compliance efforts, including adherence to insurance regulations, market conduct guidelines, pension, privacy, AML/ATF, and tax requirements Deliver training and prepare materials on regulatory and compliance topics Participate in or lead internal working groups and special projects Provide general legal advice across a variety of business functions Requirements Qualified to practice law in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario 4-6 years of post‑call legal experience Experience in insurance law is required Experience working with or within a regulated financial institution is an asset Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent written and verbal communication abilities Strong analytical and critical thinking skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment Team‑oriented, resourceful, and self‑motivated Exposure to risk management, operational compliance, or internal audit is considered an asset #J-18808-Ljbffr
