The Dispatcher Level 4 provides consistent and timely dispatch services to member companies at all times. Role Description On an assigned basis, ensure the requirements for Lines, Checkers and First Aid are dispatched in a timely and cost-effective manner according to customer requirements. Maintain and apply working knowledge of the collective agreement and black book document interpretations, policies and procedures when discharging dispatch responsibilities. Actively manage labour relations by ensuring compliance and consistent application of the collective agreement and black book documents Provide direction, support and guidance to member companies including education on dispatch guidelines and collective agreement/black book requirements/interpretations Ensure the labour relations interests of the customer are upheld Promptly anticipate dispatch issues that may arise and advise affected customer member companies representatives of available options and solutions At all times perform job functions with adherence to BCMEA policies Ensure the Dispatch Dep Sea desk is apprised of any issues impacting dispatch and/or customer member operations Manage and maintain constructive relationships with ILWU Business Agents, Labour and Foremen Ensure all contentious labour issues are resolved with a view to best serving the member companies Establish and maintain constructive communication and working relationships with peers, management and union business agents Assist with the development and support of strategic initiatives to build the Dispatch organization’s performance Ensure all dispatch-related labour issues are resolved with a view to best serving the customer member companies Provide input/feedback on processes and program requirements to the dispatch system to optimize the dispatch process and times Provide administrative support for Dispatch services on an ongoing basis Work with peers and management on projects as assigned Report to the Deep Sea desk for supervisory direction related to any dispatch matters Provide guidance and support to peers ensuring work consistency Ensure appropriate conduct by longshore workers and union is maintained in dispatch hall/office at all times As a BCMEA representative, attend various 3rd party functions such as but not limited to transportation club meetings, education seminars, etc. At all times maintain strict confidentiality on all issues/information flowing through dispatch Qualifications Post-secondary education or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills Results oriented with an ability to work well under pressure and minimal supervision Experience working in a computerized environment with an aptitude to learn dispatch- related software Professional and pleasant telephone manner Always demonstrate a strong alignment of customer service BC Maritime Employers Association is an equal opportunity employer.
