As a Senior Software Engineer on our Ancillaries squad, you will build integrations that expand what we can offer travelers—connecting external providers to our platform so partners like Booking.com, Skyscanner, and Ryanair can deliver personalized protection and services at scale. We’re building AI‑first. You’ll use agentic tools like Claude Code and Gemini as core parts of your workflow—not as novelties, but as multipliers that let a small team ship like a big one. You’ll shape how we integrate AI into development practices, from code generation to testing to documentation, and help define what "agentic software engineering" looks like at Cover Genius. This is a founding role: high ownership, high ambiguity, high impact. You’ll make architectural decisions that scale across dozens of provider integrations, mentor engineers in AI‑augmented workflows, and own outcomes from day one. Key Responsibilities Design and build integrations with external providers—defining patterns that scale across many partners and product types. Use AI tools (Claude Code, Gemini) as core workflow accelerators; develop prompt strategies and agentic workflows that multiply your output. Lead technical decisions for the Ancillaries squad, balancing speed‑to‑market with long‑term maintainability. Drive technical quality through code reviews, design discussions, and by setting standards that raise the bar for AI‑augmented development. Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to prioritize integrations and translate partner needs into technical solutions. Mentor engineers in AI‑first development practices—help the team adopt tools and workflows that make everyone more effective. Own reliability and observability for integration surfaces; ensure we know when things break before our partners do. Skills and Experience 6+ years of experience in software development, with a track record of shipping production systems. Fluent with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini, or similar)—you’ve integrated them into real workflows, not just experimented. Working understanding of LLMs beyond code generation. Deep experience with Node.js and TypeScript; hands‑on experience with NestJS or similar frameworks. Polyglot mindset—comfortable picking up new languages; experience or exposure to Python or PHP is a plus. Experience designing APIs and building integrations with third‑party services at scale. Strong understanding of microservices architectures, cloud infrastructure (AWS), and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes). Solid grasp of relational databases, data modeling, and event‑driven patterns. Comfort with ambiguity—you’ve built systems where requirements were discovered along the way. Strong communication skills; able to document decisions, write clear specs, and influence without authority. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, a postgraduate degree and/or a record of academic achievement is also desirable. Proficiencies and Attributes Ownership & Delivery Takes ambiguous problems and drives them to shipped outcomes—not just code, but results. Balances speed with quality; knows when to iterate fast and when to invest in durability. Manages risk proactively—identifies failure modes and mitigates before they bite. Communication & Influence Creates clarity from ambiguity; documents decisions so others can build on your work. Influences through evidence and collaboration, not authority; brings people along. Communicates technical concepts clearly to engineers, product, and business stakeholders. AI‑First Mindset Treats AI tools as essential infrastructure, not optional add‑ons; continuously experiments with new capabilities. Understands LLM strengths and limitations—knows when to prompt and when to fine‑tune. Thinks in terms of leverage—automates the repetitive, focuses human attention on judgment calls. Helps others adopt AI workflows; shares what works and raises the floor for the whole team. Benefits Flexible PTO. Employee Stock Options. Work with like‑minded people who are passionate about both the work we’re doing and giving back. Social initiatives enable us to all become philanthropists through peer recognition and rewards system. Cover Genius promotes diversity and inclusivity. We don’t tolerate discrimination, demeaning treatment of anyone, or harassment due to race, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability, age, or any other legally protected status.
