About the Job We are searching for an Android Software Engineer to join the CNN Mobile Engineering Team. This role is an individual contributor who is self‑directed, works with minimal supervision, and is expected to tackle difficult technical challenges. The Engineer will contribute to the technical direction of the team, support Principal Engineers/Architects and Senior Engineers in defining technology strategy and implementation, and partner with Product, Design and Delivery leaders to help teams deliver on product initiatives and operational execution. About the Team The team builds innovative and creative mobile experiences for CNN’s news audience, leveraging the latest features and technologies available in the Android ecosystem. Key Responsibilities Build intuitive, simple, and elegantly designed mobile apps that people want to use. Provide support and develop software tools and procedures to extend and enhance the core production pipeline. Collaborate with multiple departments – Product, Design, Delivery, Editorial and Engineering – to implement CNN Digital consumer experience solutions and apps. Assist with troubleshooting production problems, root‑cause analysis, and debugging. Develop and maintain existing production systems supporting CNN’s digital ecosystem. Ensure software development follows industry best practices, policies and guidelines, including architecture, security, corporate governance, coding standards, monitoring, logging, unit testing and service enablement. Essential Qualifications BS/MS in computer science (or equivalent). Minimum 2 years of professional development experience. Strong foundation in programming fundamentals such as data structures and algorithms. Ability to develop new and innovative applications as well as maintain existing code. Full‑mobile stack development experience with native Android clients, SDKs and APIs (Kotlin/Java, Jetpack Compose, Android platform). Expert knowledge of software development methodologies, practices and architecture, including experience architecting performant, scalable and secure mobile apps. Hands‑on experience with mobile DevOps CI/CD tools and implementing best practices, including automation of deployment, code signing tools and automated tests; preferred familiarity with Git and Bitrise. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and non‑technical cross‑functional teams. Experience building flexible software architecture to accommodate shifting business needs. Nice to Have Knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as Amazon AWS. Compensation In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Base pay is $100,000.00 – $134,500.00 per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short‑ and long‑term incentives, and program‑specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros.
