Job Overview We’re looking for a Technical Artist who specializes in cross‑platform development with Unity's Universal Render Pipeline (URP) to help shape a new open‑world survival crafting IP set in a mysterious and hostile world. The role supports internal and outsourcing teams, ensuring artistic and design expectations are met while respecting performance constraints and production deadlines. Responsibilities Monitor and maintain the art asset pipeline, catching broken imports and missing materials before they reach a build. Write and maintain DCC tools, enforce naming conventions, triangle budgets, UV layouts, etc. Author and update engine‑side import settings (models, texture compression, etc.). Run performance audits on new asset submissions (draw calls, triangle counts, texture memory, overdraw) and translate findings into actionable steps. Profile builds on target hardware using native editor profilers and external profilers such as Nsight, PIX, RenderDoc, Razor, or Unity Frame Debugger/Profiler. Establish and enforce per‑asset budgets (triangle count, texel density, material count, etc.) per scene or asset class. Optimize specific assets when needed. Work closely with Graphics Programmers to author and maintain the material library using Shader Graph and HLSL. Collaborate with the Art Director to prototype new visual effects (snow, mud deformation, weathering) and integrate them into the project. Investigate and fix material/shader bugs (z‑fighting, tiling artifacts, incorrect PBR response). Validate material setups across lighting conditions and target platforms. Write and maintain the Art Bible’s technical sections (naming conventions, export specs, texture formats, folder structure, optimization considerations). Onboard new artists to pipeline tools and enforce standards. Own first‑response triage for all art‑to‑engine issues. Scope and specify new art pipeline requests and features. Evaluate and recommend new tools, plugins, and pipeline upgrades. Qualifications Experience shipping cross‑platform projects. Proven track record of owning an art pipeline end‑to‑end on a production project. Cross‑platform shipping experience from Nintendo Switch™ to PS5® / Xbox Series, with knowledge of platform‑specific shader pitfalls. Experience with terrain, vegetation, or open‑world streaming systems. Familiarity with Houdini (procedural pipelines, HDAs) or other procedural content tools. Git/SVN proficiency and comfort with merge‑request validations. Strong Unity (URP) experience across rendering, graphics, asset pipeline, profiling, debugging. Proficient in C# for editor tooling (custom inspectors, validators, batch processors). Experience writing automated asset validation (naming, triangle budgets, UV/lightmap layouts, texture sizes, material count). Comfortable authoring and maintaining import presets and platform overrides (texture compression, mesh compression, shader stripping). Experience scripting in 3ds Max, Blender, Maya, Substance 3D Painter/Designer pipelines. HLSL experience in URP (custom lit/unlit shaders, vertex animation, shader variants/keywords). Strong grasp of PBR, color spaces, tone mapping, and lighting models across platforms. Nice to Have Support for rigging and animation troubleshooting. Compute‑shader experience (grass/particle systems, GPU instancing, indirect draw). Lighting pipeline ownership (probe authoring tools). Familiarity with Jira/Confluence for issue triage and pipeline documentation. Previous experience as an artist before moving to tech art. Benefits Flexible schedule. Friday afternoon off all year round. 3 weeks’ vacation and mobile days off upon hire. Time off between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Group RRSP program with employer contributions. Group insurance program. 24/7 virtual medical clinic. Employee and Family Assistance Program. Partial reimbursement of commuting costs. Support for relocation from outside Quebec. Referral program with bonuses. Regular activities and prizes courtesy of the Social Committee. Studio perks: bike storage, daily snacks, happy hours, game room, rooftop terrace, fitness classes, proximity to parks and neighborhoods. #J-18808-Ljbffr
