This role will be responsible for negotiating reinsurance, monitoring and reporting on pricing profitability, and reviewing and assessing the appropriateness of assumptions used in pricing. The AVP will serve as a mentor and leader within the pricing team, supporting talent development and fostering an environment of continuous learning and innovation.As the Assistant Vice-President and Actuary, Pricing you will…Support the VP in leading the development of our universal life, term, guaranteed life, simplified life, and critical illness products, as well as in the development of future individual insurance productsLead the negotiation of reinsurance for individual insurance new business to optimize pricing profitabilityLead the reporting of individual insurance new business profitabilityReview and provide insights into individual insurance pricing profitability to help ensure results are reasonable and account for all material risksEnsure compliance with established pricing and risk management policiesBe integral in key research and development activities leading to innovative insurance-based solutionsProvide actuarial leadership and direction on pricing and reinsurance assumptions and methodologyWork closely with key functions including Product Management, Reinsurance Administration and Underwriting to ensure pricing alignment with business goalsEnsure clear and concise communication to management, focused on business driversMaintain a deep understanding of client requirements, regulatory developments and market trends to inform pricing decisionsBe familiar with actuarial valuation standards, CIA guidance material and OSFI guidelinesBe familiar with accounting and capital frameworks (IFRS 17 and LICAT 2025)Manage resources and staff development including coaching, mentoring and performance assessmentPossess strong leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team to make the most of their abilities and recognize their full potentialWhat We Are Looking For…FCIAUniversity degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or a related fieldMinimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the individual insurance and/or reinsurance industrySuperior organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple and changing prioritiesStrong analytical, decision-making and negotiation skillsWorking knowledge of capital and accounting bases relevant to pricing decisionsExcellent verbal and written communication skills, focusing on relevant information and being able to explain complex concepts in easily understandable terms to a wide range of audiencesExcellent stakeholder management skills, capable of influencing and engaging across all levelsDemonstrated ability to lead and mentor a high-performing team of pricing professionalsAbility to understand and interpret complex guidelines and incorporate them into pricing modelsWhat We Pay… $140,000 to $190,000What's In It For You… At ivari, it's important for us to keep our people motivated, recognized, and rewarded.
