Position Summary Nodin’s Social Emergency Response Service provides support to First Nations communities impacted by traumatic incidents and associated crises. The Service responds to critical incidents, collaborates with communities and partners to formulate plans, supports localized strategies, and coordinates responses by mobilizing resources as requested. Supports include counselling, emotional support, debriefing, cultural support, and options for longer-term recovery and healing, including dispatching volunteer crisis teams. The Coordinator works collaboratively to support the crisis response team, including coordinating all administrative duties associated with processing community requests (travel, accommodations, invoices, statistics, etc.). The Coordinator effectively communicates and liaises with internal and external partners, often being the first to receive information regarding tragic events, and helps support and de-escalate the affected individuals. Roles & Responsibilities Coordinate and act as a liaison with leadership, community-based crisis coordinators, tribal councils, mental wellness teams, Nodin departments, and other programs to explain the program’s role and secure supports. Build strong collaborative relationships. Support complex scheduling. Provide after-hours crisis response on-call support as part of a rotational schedule. Format and draft information for internal and external communications. Gather and maintain accurate documentation for quality service and statistical purposes. Provide program support and coordination tasks (filing, faxing, banking, composing memos/letters, completing contract requests, organizing travel, managing travel/expense claims, updating contact information, purchase orders, etc.). Arrange and deploy crisis intervention and cultural supports into communities. Coordinate debriefing and capacity-building assistance for community groups to manage crises. Ensure direct and indirect Indian Residential School Survivors receive mental health counselling and cultural support. Monitor program activity through regular contact with team members and communities. Assist supervisor with tracking data for reports and completing all required reports. Arrange and participate in in-service training, meetings with partners, and team-building and debriefing activities. Cover for supervisor as required. Perform any other duties deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor. Qualifications Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference. Minimum high school diploma/GED or equivalent; post-secondary education in office management or administration preferred. Minimum 2 years experience in office administration or support. Experience in a mental health or social services setting preferred. Proficient typing skills with minimum 60 wpm; experience with MS Office, internet, and office equipment. Excellent written and verbal communication, problem solving, time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Accuracy and strong attention to detail. Strong coordination skills. Ability to take initiative, adapt, multitask, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment. Ability to remain calm in crisis situations. Training courses in crisis management, trauma-informed care, First Nations history, indigenous residential school, cultural safety are assets. Knowledge of First Nations people, culture, and mental health priorities in the Sioux Lookout region is essential. Ability to speak one or more of the First Nations dialects of the Sioux Lookout region is an asset. Flexibility to work flexible hours and a rotational on-call schedule. Ability to perform the duties of this job on a regular basis. Working Conditions Prolonged sitting, frequent use of computer, keyboard and mouse, prolonged screen viewing. Must be willing to relocate to Sioux Lookout. Must be willing and able to work flexible hours; days, evenings and weekends if necessary. Overtime preapproved as required.
