In this role you will help deliver great experience and improve the store for both users and developers by generating insights from data in a privacy‑friendly manner.Description As a member of the App Store Data Engineering team, you will play a key role in building large‑scale data products for external reporting needs.This is a software engineering role with strong analytical responsibilities. We build robust, production‑quality code and process petabytes of data daily in a distributed way.Data is our core product, and we care deeply about its correctness, semantic, lineage, usability and future evolution.ResponsibilitiesWork in highly cross functional teamDesign new data products in collaborationMaintain and evolve existing data products throughout their lifecycleExplore new ideas, run analysis, share insights, propose improvements, innovateEvolve data contracts, improve interfaces with existing systems, introduce new onesWrite clean, efficient, scalable code that processes hundreds of terabytes of dataReview team members’ code in efficient and constructive wayMaintain and improve internal documentationConduct initial testing and work with other validating partners to complete certificationOwn data quality, scalability and cost efficiency for the assigned datasets and data pipelinesRelease changes to productionWork with SRE teams on troubleshootingContribute to surrounding infrastructure, services, frameworks, shared tools, standard methodologies, documentation and solutions to common problemsAbide by applicable policies and standardsMinimum Qualifications5+ years of hands‑on experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, distributed data processing, or similar roles5+ years of hands‑on experience in Java or Scala3+ years of hands‑on experience in building and maintaining service layer applications, including data access patterns and integration with backend data systemsExpert‑level proficiency in SQLGood understanding of computer science fundamentals — algorithms, data structures, complexityGood record of maintaining systems and apps in productionBachelor or Master degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Business Information Systems, Statistics or similar quantitative degree, or equivalent work experiencePreferred QualificationsExcellent communication and collaboration skills and ability to present new ideasDeep understanding of big‑data stack, experience with some or all of following technologies: Spark, Flink, Kafka, Trino(Presto), Hadoop, Airflow, Iceberg, DBT, Snowflake, Cassandra, HBase, S3‑like blob storage, Redis and other similar systemsExperience with traditional RDBMS systems: Oracle, PostgreSQL or othersUnderstanding e‑Commerce domain: payments, transactions, sales, subscriptions, monetization, etcAbility to work autonomously and unblock yourselfExperience of working in corporate environments with big number of teamsData investigation and exploration skillsSystem design and documentation skillsPay & Benefits At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $116,800 and $226,000, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple Inc.’s discretionary employee stock programs. Employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit award recommendations, and can purchase Apple Inc. stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple Inc.’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
