The Team In partnership with the Customer Insights Data and Analytics teams and our IT partners the Data and Analytics Technology team supports the bank’s Data and Analytics needs with tooling, projects and IT operational support. The Role The Sr Cloud Engineer (Technical Lead) role will be responsible for building, tuning, managing infrastructure, platform site reliability, monitoring and troubleshooting bank‑wide initiatives supported by Data and Analytics Technology on GCP Platform. This consists of platform building, tooling, integration, process automation, platform enhancement, and delivery of new projects. Is this role right for you? In this role you will: Guidance and Direction: Provide clear directions to the team, set goals and keep the team accountable for their deliverables. Align team goals with the overall direction of the Platform. Vendor and Technical Support Interaction: Regularly meet with product vendors and technical support to fine‑tune and troubleshoot software components, ensuring the highest level of system performance and reliability. Operational Administration: Oversee platform housekeeping tasks, manage budgeting and cost optimization efforts, coordinate vendor relationships, produce reports and dashboards for senior management and handle contract renewals to ensure smooth operational continuity and fiscal responsibility. Technical Oversight: Understand GCP services, Platform architecture and best practices. Architectural Leadership: Serve as the technical SME cloud‑native architecture, infrastructure‑as‑code, and data platform integrations, guiding design and implementation decisions. Quality Assurance: Ensure high quality of support delivery for the platform users. Adhere to the Platform SLAs and service objectives. Site reliability: Analyze, triage and resolve Platform issues promptly to achieve Platform site reliability objectives. Incident Management: Provide support during major Incidents including after‑hours support. Design strategies for Incident response and user communications. Process Improvements: Continually improve Platform processes and Standard operating procedures for efficiency gains and automation. Customer Relations: Create a strong relationship with the platform user base. Communicate effectively with the platform stakeholders and cross‑functional teams within the Bank. Advanced Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues to ensure optimal system performance. Observability Tools development: Design, build and deploy cloud logging and monitoring solutions, including improvements to current solutions for early detection of issues. Cloud Managed Application Development: Design, build, and implement solutions around standard public cloud services such as Google Cloud Storage, Azure Storage, Bigquery, Synapse Analytics, Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Vertex AI Notebooks, Cloud Run and Cloud Functions, using Terraform Modules. Release Control Management: Maintain and enhance the Release Control Management pipeline using Terraform, Cloud Build, GCP DevOps, and GitHub Actions and Bitbucket/GitHub repositories. Client Pipeline Management: Implement CI/CD processes by designing industry standard Cloud Build for deploying infrastructure and analytics workloads using Terraform, Docker, Cloud Build, GCP DevOps, GitHub Actions, Artifact Registry and other build / deployment activities. Credential Security: Set up HashiCorp Vault and Secret Manager for secret management. Integrate security solutions with client interfaces. Client User Acceptance Testing: Lead clients in user acceptance testing for component and base image upgrades, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruptions. Mentorship: Mentor junior engineers in best practices for building, deploying, testing, and supporting services, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Test new technologies: Design and implement pilot projects to test new technologies like Databricks to improve platform features. Skills Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have: 10+ years of overall experience with 5+ years of experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Microsoft Azure 5+ years of experience in using Infrastructure as Code tooling like Terraform 5+ years of experience with container‑based technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) 5+ years of experience in the use of CI/CD tools 2+ years of experience in Dataproc implementation In‑depth understanding of different database technologies (e.g., CloudSQL, NoSQL, relational databases) 5+ years of experience with configuration management tools and scripting languages (Ansible, Bash, Groovy) Google Cloud Architect certification will be a strong asset. Manage a team of cloud engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Own and drive major change approvals, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and risk‑management practices. Provide mentorship, career development, and performance feedback to team members. Contribute to strategic planning and roadmap development for platform capabilities. A university degree in Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Management or relevant. What's in it for you?
