We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Ottawa office, supporting primarily federal government projects across a range of complex building and infrastructure sectors, including healthcare, laboratories, commercial, higher education, aviation, and rail.OpportunityLead the design and delivery of electrical systems on medium to large-scale, complex projects, with a strong focus on federal government work (design electrical systems, including power, lighting, fire alarm, grounding, electrical interconnection systems, and surge protection systems).Act as the lead electrical designer, taking ownership of technical quality, coordination, and delivery.Work independently on Ottawa-based projects while collaborating with regional teams as required.Prepare drawings, specifications, technical reports, and presentation materials.Present technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.Maintain strong client relationships, supporting successful project delivery and repeat business.Uphold quality standards, support commercial metrics, and contribute to overall project performance.Participate in local professional associations and contribute to the professional community.Perform calculations for electrical systems, including load analysis, short-circuit analysis, voltage drop calculations, and photometric calculations.Select electrical equipment and coordinate the selection and specifications of this equipment with relevant suppliers.Prepare contract documents describing the design of electrical systems and write technical design statements.Contribute to the development of technical specifications.Coordinate work with architects, contractors, and equipment suppliers.Coordinate across multiple disciplines to deliver holistic, results-oriented projects.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.At least 6 years of electrical engineering experience designing building or infrastructure electrical systems.Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead the electrical discipline on projects.Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.Experience working in multi-disciplinary team environments.Proficiency with 3D BIM tools, preferably Revit MEP.Strong knowledge of applicable Canadian standards and codes.Ability to establish and effectively manage priorities and deadlines; strong organizational skills required for a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment.Excellent writing skills to communicate electrical system design concepts and strategies both internally and externally.Ability to present technical content to both specialized and non-specialist audiences.Preferred QualificationsProfessional Engineering (PE / P.Eng) license is highly preferred.Experience with power system modeling using SKM, Etap, or similar software.Experience working on federal government projects or within regulated project environments.Ability to communicate in French is preferred but not required.Ottawa operates in a bilingual environment; French language skills are an asset for collaboration on Montreal-based projects.What We OfferComprehensive benefits program fully paid by the company, including health and welfare security and paid time off for rest and renewal.Global Profit Share Plan (paid bi‑annually) and 5% company match to help you save for your future.Flexible working arrangements that support inclusivity, wellbeing, and work-life balance.Competitive salary range for Ottawa: $101,000 to $130,000 CAD, commensurate with experience, education, and skill level.Acknowledgement of Equality and Inclusion Arup is an equal‑opportunity employer that actively promotes and nurtures a diverse and inclusive workforce.
