Summary Seeking MEDICAL or SURGICAL Comprehensive Ophthalmologist – SURGICAL Glaucoma Specialist – or MEDICAL Retina Specialists for a Full‑time VA position within Northern California VA Eye Section. This role offers an Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment) providing reimbursement up to $200,000 over five years with up to $40,000 per year. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants who have not yet completed training or licensing may be considered but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA physicians who satisfied the former qualification standard at the time of initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements. Basic Requirements United States Citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited) Medical degree (MD or DO) from an approved VA‑approved school Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board‑certification eligibility Other residency pathways: (1) ACGME/AOAC‑approved residency/fellowship; (2) one year of post‑medical‑school training followed by two years of independent practice; or (3) non‑U.S. residency followed by at least three years of verified independent U.S. practice with relevant experience Resident physicians currently enrolled in an accredited program and who meet basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers under special provisions Proficiency in spoken and written English Board certified or board‑eligible in Ophthalmology Physical capability to lift 15‑44 pounds, perform repetitive motions, stand, walk, and kneel as required Required drug testing and physical examination upon placement Duties This continuous announcement will remain open until July ; the initial cut‑off for referral is May with subsequent cuts every five days. Administrative duties: oversee clinic operations, supervise residents, maintain Joint Commission readiness, and manage electronic medical records.
