The company is headquartered in Calgary with a satellite office in Houston.What You Would Do in This Role The Intermediate Piping Engineer participates in the design of different aspects of energy industry projects from inception to completion. Duties include:Developing the process design for a project or proposal consisting of a normal process unitProviding comprehensive engineering and design services by establishing design criteria and preparing specifications, design computations, drawings, models and bills of material in accordance with basic project requirementsParticipating in the design of component parts and individual unitsExercising cost/budget control, reviewing and monitoring designs for conformance with control estimates and project specificationsReviewing and maintaining project schedules, and tracking engineering tasks and deliverables in conjunction with project managementParticipating in design reviews and HAZOPsProviding technical guidance to junior staffReviewing vendor or subcontractor quotations, drawings and specifications for technical adequacy and conformance with project requirementsApplying engineering techniques and analyses to solving engineering tasksAdhering to Vista Quality Management System (QMS)Ensuring design is in accordance with applicable codes and requirements, including Vista and client specifications and standardsReviewing the work of othersActively stewarding change management related to their scopes of workPreparing or assisting in the preparation of discipline inputs for cost estimates for proposalsAuthenticating documentation with a professional engineering stamp as requiredReviewing existing line class specificationsDefining piping line classes (flange ratings)Completing piping data in the line listPreparing engineering work packagesPreparing and reviewing manual valve and piping specialty item listsPreparing and reviewing valve and specialty items datasheetsPreparing and reviewing tie‑in listsChecking piping isometric materialsPerforming maximum allowable flange rating and wall thickness calculationsPreparing and reviewing material requisitions and technical bid evaluationsPreparing and reviewing material take‑offs (MTO) for piping, valves, fittings and specialty items or checking MTOs if created from the 3D modelPreparing and reviewing commodity purchase specifications (pipe, fittings, etc.)Providing input to P&ID for manual valve and specialty item taggingPerforming other duties as requestedRequirementsFour to ten years of progressive experience in facilities engineering and design in the energy industryBachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in engineering or applied scienceAbility to work and collaborate within a multi‑disciplinary team including Process, Mechanical, Civil, Structural & Architectural, Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls and Piping Engineers and Designers as well as Project Management and Procurement personnelP.Eng. registration with APEGAProficiency with Microsoft Word and ExcelStrong written and oral communication skillsStrong organizational skills, technical competence and attention to detailSelf‑motivated and efficient with time managementFamiliarity with applicable codes and industry standardsAbility to meet safety requirements to attend site visitsPreferredTwo to four years of experience as a professional engineer, ideally with experience in the energy industryWhy People Like Working with Us Working with Vista is a chance to contribute to the type of challenging municipal and industrial projects that the world requires.
