The Work As part of a growing and dynamic Commercial Portfolio Management team, the Account Manager is responsible for the day‑to‑day management of an assigned group of lending partners and associated portfolio of mortgages, from funding through maturity. The Account Manager will focus primarily on conventional and construction mortgages secured by all types of asset classes. The Account Manager will be looked upon to deliver superior customer service by understanding, and responding to, the needs of the client by way of underwriting renewals, assumptions, refinances, loan modifications, etc., in an effort to meet annual retention targets. Work product must adhere to established policies and underwriting standards and meet compliance and control requirements. The incumbent will also be responsible for monitoring risks associated with their commercial construction lending portfolio. Working closely with the Commercial Analyst and the Manager, Portfolio Management, the individual will manage day‑to‑day operations of their construction portfolio, including monitoring project status and associated covenants, identifying and mitigating execution risk via communication with internal and external stakeholders, regular site inspections, and oversight of work completed by the Commercial Analyst. The Account Manager must ensure that risks associated with their portfolio are comprehensively controlled and within the Bank’s risk appetite and that loans remain in compliance with lending parameters through completion of annual reviews. Additional credit‑related and administrative duties include subsequent advances, reporting and pipeline management, and networking with external business partners and various staff within the Commercial department and other internal departments. Core responsibilities Provide superior customer service with respect to assigned relationships. Renewals, refinances, extensions, assumptions, annual reviews and ad‑hoc requests to be negotiated and completed quickly, efficiently, and accurately (35%). Review ongoing sub‑advance requests prepared by the Commercial Analyst, ensuring the project remains on schedule and on budget. Work with lending partners to address cost overruns and ensure all internal stakeholders are consulted (25%). Ensure credit risk associated with the portfolio of mortgages is controlled and within approved guidelines, reviewing credit documentation in accordance with policies and underwriting procedures, and submitting recommendations within the Bank’s delegated authority limits (20%). Communicate with internal contacts (management, originations, funders, coordinators, etc.) to ensure all transactions and ad‑hoc requests meet prescribed deadlines in a timely manner (10%). Prepare specific reports on assigned categories for the department/Company on a weekly, monthly, and/or quarterly basis, which will be relied upon by Senior Management (5%). Contribute to special projects as assigned from time to time (5%). What we’re looking for Post‑secondary education preferably in business or finance. Bilingualism (French/English) is considered an asset. Proficient underwriting skills with a minimum 2‑4 years of commercial mortgage experience. Working knowledge of AML/ATF regulations and corporate/legal documentation for commercial real‑estate in multiple jurisdictions across Canada. Sound technical knowledge of commercial real‑estate underwriting, financial‑statement analysis, and factors affecting the commercial mortgage market. Good working knowledge of MS Office (primarily Word and Excel). Effective analytical and problem‑solving skills. Strong organizational and time‑management skills. Ability to handle multiple competing priorities. Strong negotiation skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently to achieve goals. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate to Senior Management and partners in a clear, concise and professional manner. Job Complexity & Thinking Challenges The position requires an individual to be client‑focused, a self‑starter, with the ability to make sound underwriting decisions efficiently. The incumbent must exhibit strong cognitive skills, professional judgement, and the ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, to identify and mitigate risks associated with individual transactions while balancing client needs. The incumbent must follow corporate policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to rationalise recommendations or decisions when full information is not available.
