Senior Ecologist (Project & Practice Leadership) Millennium EMS Solutions is seeking a Senior Ecologist to provide technical leadership, project accountability, and mentorship within our Biophysical Services team. This is a senior level consulting role for an experienced professional who thrives at the intersection of technical excellence, project delivery, and people leadership. The successful candidate will act as a fully accountable Project Manager and technical lead, guiding complex environmental projects from proposal through execution, while mentoring staff and contributing to the strategic growth of the biophysical practice. What You’ll Do Project & Client Leadership Lead and manage medium to large, multi-disciplinary environmental projects with full accountability for scope, schedule, quality, and financial performance. Serve as a trusted technical and regulatory advisor to clients across energy, infrastructure, and resource sectors. Actively contribute to proposals, scope development, and client presentations, partnering with senior business development leaders to support growth. Technical Excellence Provide senior level technical oversight and hands on expertise in vegetation, wetland, wildlife, soils, and reclamation disciplines. Lead or Direct Field Programs and Deliverables Related To Wetland assessment and classification Linear infrastructure (pipelines, utilities) Municipal and industrial developments Reclamation and compliance monitoring Environmental impact assessments Apply current scientific methods and Alberta/federal regulatory knowledge to deliver defensible, high quality technical outputs. Provide senior and peer review of reports and project deliverables. People & Practice Leadership Supervise, mentor, and develop intermediate and junior staff, supporting technical growth and career progression. Lead field, technical, and professional development training as required. Support practice initiatives, continuous improvement, and internal knowledge sharing across Millennium. Work Environment Predominantly office based (~95%), with occasional field support (~5%) for training, oversight, or specialized work. Periodic travel to client and project sites (1–10 days per trip), including industrial and remote locations. What You Bring Technical & Professional Skills Proven strength in project management, including financial and resource oversight. Advanced technical report writing and quality control experience. Demonstrated expertise in ecological land classification, wetland classification, soil classification, and GIS. Experience applying statistics, data management, and GIS to ecological studies. Solid understanding of the oil & gas, pipeline, and oil sands sectors. Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring capabilities. Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver under deadlines. Working Conditions Combination of office and field environments. Field work may involve walking, lifting equipment (up to 30 kg), and working in remote or industrial settings. Occasional extended hours, travel, or evening work may be required.
