Instrumentation & Controls Commissioning Superintendent Location: Sparwood, BC Work Schedule: 14 days on/7 days off - Flights and Accommodations provided Rate: $110/hr Introduction Brunel is an Instrumentation Commissioning Superintendent on behalf of our client. The successful candidate will report to the Deputy Commissioning Manager and will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing all instrumentation pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, including loop testing. This role ensures systems are completed safely, on schedule, and in full compliance with quality, contractual, and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities Leadership & Management Lead, supervise, and coordinate instrumentation commissioning teams, technicians, and contractors Plan and manage daily com L missioning activities and field execution Provide technical direction, mentorship, and performance oversight Interface with engineering, construction, vendors, and operations teams Support workforce planning, resource loading, and productivity tracking Safety & Compliance Promote and enforce a strong safety culture across all activities Conduct and participate in daily safety meetings/toolbox talks Ensure strict implementation of LOTO (Lock-out/Tag-out) procedures Review and approve Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and permits to work Ensure compliance with all company, client, and regulatory HSE requirements Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions Commissioning & Startup Execution Plan, coordinate, and oversee instrumentation activities for Mechanical Completion (MC) verification, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup Develop/review commissioning procedures, test packs, and method statements Execute and supervise loop checks, calibration, functional testing, and control system testing (DCS / PLC / SCADA) Lead punch list clearance and system completion activities related to instrumentation Oversee system energization and Ready for Start-Up (RFSU) milestones Technical Responsibilities Verify installation, integrity, and readiness of field instrumentation, control valves, actuators, safety systems, and automation systems Review engineering documents including P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, control logic, and cause & effect matrices Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve system issues during pre-commissioning and commissioning Review FAT/SAT and vendor reports and ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and site standards Documentation & Handover Maintain comprehensive commissioning documentation including test reports, loop folders, and check sheets Ensure systems meet design intent, specifications, and performance criteria Support system handover, acceptance, and closeout with operations/client Track and close punch items and deficiencies Planning & Reporting Coordinate with construction, QA/QC, and operations teams Provide daily/weekly progress reports and monitor progress against schedule and milestones Identify risks and implement mitigation actions Ensure availability of spare parts, tools, and test equipment Skills and Qualifications Degree or Diploma in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Control Systems Engineering Extensive experience in commissioning and startup of industrial projects (oil & gas, energy, mining, or process facilities) Strong knowledge of instrumentation, control, and automation systems including DCS, PLC, SCADA, field instruments, and SIS Proven leadership and supervisory experience in field commissioning environments Experience with system completion, turnover processes, and documentation management Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills Excellent leadership, communication, coordination, and interpersonal skills Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (P&IDs, loop diagrams, etc.) Strong understanding of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance standards What We Offer Why work with Brunel?
