Job Overview Working with a high degree of autonomy, the Actuarial Consultant leads the development of reporting that delivers actionable business insights to the Personal Pricing department. The successful candidate collaborates with Data Analysts and applies actuarial knowledge to solve complex business issues and answer key questions. Positions at the Senior Actuarial Analyst, Actuarial Consultant, or Senior Actuarial Consultant level are considered. Job Responsibilities Research, extract, and manipulate complex data from relevant sources, assessing data quality. Support the business and overall team by performing analyses/reviews and completing ad‑hoc requests or special projects in a timely manner with minimal support. Evaluate procedures and processes, recommend alternatives or improvements, and identify opportunities for automation. Develop new approaches to problem solving, assess impact of solution options, and stay informed on emerging industry trends. Represent Wawanesa at external events, including universities, actuarial clubs, industry organizations, and charitable causes. Commit to professional development and continuous experiential learning, acquiring cross‑functional knowledge, technical skills, and mastery of competencies. Focus learning activities on bringing new knowledge and skills to the team to address existing gaps. Provide regular project updates to stakeholders, anticipate obstacles, and raise them in advance. Lead projects from inception to completion, including implementation of final products and providing training and documentation. Contribute to the mentorship, training, and development of actuarial analysts. Provide feedback, instruction, and development guidance to help others excel in their job responsibilities, building trust and credibility with peers. Develop strong working relationships across teams. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline. More than four years of actuarial experience; CAS exams or ACAS designation is a plus. Advanced oral and written communication skills, conveying business terminology and insights clearly. Ability to clearly document major projects and key processes. Effective in communicating analysis and results to senior leaders in written and/or oral form, influencing decisions. Proficiency with Excel, SQL, R, Python, and/or related software. Experience with AWS (S3 and SageMaker), Power BI, or Databricks is an asset. Ability to adapt to new enterprise system environments. Strong analytical mindset with a focus on detail and minimal technical errors. Skill in peer review through reasonability checks and balancing materiality, efficiency, and accuracy. Capacity to prioritize and complete multiple concurrent assignments, individually and as a team leader, within deadlines while keeping leaders informed. Develops timelines for project plans and works efficiently and cooperatively in a team environment. Respectfully challenges status quo and seeks input to improve results.
