Overview Health and Safety Advisor – Jobsite, you are primarily responsible for managing the health and safety prevention component of the worksites assigned to you. You will support and advise internal clients (managers, site supervisors, employees) in the application of established policies, procedures and practices. Responsibilities Collaborate in the development and implementation of various health and safety (H&S) programs, policies, procedures and activities. Prepare and conduct health and safety training and train new employees on occupational health and safety. Conduct regular inspections of construction sites and work methods to ensure safety rules are observed, protective equipment is used properly and all necessary safety devices are in place and in good working order. Develop the project-specific prevention program and ensure it is implemented on the jobsite. Require immediate corrections to unsafe conditions found during inspections. Issue and follow up on correction notices. Respond to potential incidents and investigate following an incident. Ensure health and safety is maintained on the site by all contractors and visitors alike. Participate in safety-related meetings and contribute to the development of a H&S program that meets the needs and responsibilities of employees and managers. Lead and/or coordinate training sessions. Qualifications University degree in human resources management or industrial relations or equivalent training and experience in occupational health and safety. 5-8 years of experience on construction sites in an occupational health and safety role. NCSO accreditation or equivalent accreditation in construction safety. Knowledge of occupational health and safety laws and regulations, including industrial hygiene concepts. Knowledge of major hazards on construction sites such as working at heights, confined spaces, hazardous materials, lifting of loads, etc. Knowledge of the implementation of occupational health and safety management systems and techniques for conducting audits. Knowledge of occupational health and safety management standards (e.g. OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001 and COR) (an asset). Mobility required within Canada.
