Overview The Project Safety Coordinator is responsible for promoting and ensuring a safe work environment on construction sites. This role involves developing, implementing, and enforcing safety policies and procedures in compliance with local regulations. The Project Safety Coordinator will conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and safety training sessions to identify potential hazards and promote best practices among all personnel. Responsibilities Maintain the site offices in a clean condition. Perform daily safety inspections as outlined in the Health and Safety Program. Collect information on the trade workforce present on the site within one hour of work commencing each day and enter that information on the Daily Report Form. Collect and maintain the information necessary for the monthly Corporate Safety Meetings. Attend and contribute to the monthly Corporate Safety Meetings. Perform daily functions regarding the paperwork required by the Health and Safety Manual. Do simple inspections of the progress made by trade contractors, with attention to possible safety concerns. Specific requirements for Project Safety Coordinator duties are outlined in the relevant bylaws and the Health and Safety Manual. Ensure Site orientation of all workers and all other site personnel as designated by the Site Superintendent. During site inspections, liaise, communicate, meet with and respond to the WorkSafe BC Inspectors. Attend and participate in training sessions to increase competency and awareness around all issues of safety pertaining to Operations. Complete regular and comprehensive inspections of the site to ensure that safety standards are being met and report back all exceptions to the Site Superintendent and be accountable for action to correct such exceptions. Pay attention to the DEADLY SINS: “FALL PROTECTION, ELECTROCUTION, CONFINED SPACES, UNPROTECTED TRENCH EXCAVATIONS, HEAVY MACHINERY” etc. Skills and Abilities Requirements Working knowledge of computer systems and commonly used software and databases as it relates to Safety. Training in negotiation skills relating to Safety. Ability to communicate, liaise and work in conjunction with Site Personnel. Strong knowledge of Workers’ Compensation Board / WorkSafe BC Regulations and Procedures Ability to conduct orientations for Site Visitors and Site Workers Strong interpersonal skills Ability to carry out Site Incident and Accident Investigations and prepare reports required by the authority having jurisdiction. Ability to manage the Safety risk of Trade Contractors. Ability to manage correspondence including how to write business letters, and to use the database for the management of Safety information within SharePoint. Ability to write technical Safety Reports. Working knowledge of Industrial First Aid. Ability to carry out comprehensive Safety related inspections on building construction projects. Experience/Qualifications Certification as a Construction Safety Officer (CSO or NSCO) First Aid/CPR / Level3 Occupational First Aid 2+ years' of related work experience in construction specifically residential high-rise towers.
