Canada Research Chair CIHR Tier 2 Opportunity in Molecular Imaging The Department of Physics in the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies at Lakehead University invites applications for a CIHR Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Molecular Imaging. The role focuses on developing advanced molecular imaging techniques and translating them into clinical practice, with an emphasis on nuclear medicine for cancer, neurology, and other disease areas. Researchers interested in translational research on innovative nuclear medicine imaging technologies—including organ‑targeted and hybrid approaches and advanced methods for image acquisition and reconstruction—are strongly encouraged to apply. This CRC position is for five (5) years, renewable once, and requires approval of the Tri‑Agency Institutional Programs (TIPs) Secretariat. The successful applicant will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor within the Department of Physics, with the rank commensurate with experience and an anticipated start date within four to six months following approval. Responsibilities Advance discovery and translational research in molecular imaging to increase research capacity and training opportunities. Develop and implement a plan for establishing and maintaining a diverse team and an inclusive research and training environment that promotes co‑creation with partners from all sectors. Mentor students, trainees, and research personnel and contribute to service to the research community (e.g., peer review and advisory committees). Produce a high‑quality original research program in molecular imaging and engage in publishing, teaching, and community outreach. Work with the Office of Research Services to complete a CRC Tier 2 and CFI nomination package within six months of nomination. Qualifications PhD in Physics or a related area. Responsible for advanced research and teaching in molecular imaging. Demonstrated record of service, mentorship, and excellence in teaching. Evidence of international recognition potential within the next five to ten years. Ability to attract, develop and retain promising trainees. Track record of original, innovative research programs in molecular imaging. Knowledge of inclusive research practices and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. Compensation Associate Professor: $120,496 – $170,496 Assistant Professor: $88,094 – $133,223 Salary will be determined in accordance with the Lakehead University Faculty Association (LUFA) Collective Agreement and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. CRC Eligibility Tier 2 CRCs are for exceptional emerging researchers, acknowledged by peers as having the potential to lead in their field. Candidates must meet all Tier 2 CRC requirements and be eligible for assistant or associate professor positions. Typically, candidates are no more than ten years from their first independent research‑related appointment at the time of nomination. Lakehead University may nominate an individual who is more than ten years from their first independent appointment if there are documented career interruptions, subject to eligibility approval from the CRC Secretariat.
