Overview The Business Development Manager is responsible for productive working relationships with selected Mortgage Brokerage firms in all of our operating markets. Reporting to the Director, Mobile & Broker Services, the role ensures Meridian has the Mortgage Broker connections required to surpass annual origination targets and acts as the primary steward and supporter of the Underwriting team. The incumbent will maintain awareness of broker lender product service offerings, rates and commission structures and advise of developing trends in the broker landscape. Key Responsibilities Be the “Go to” contact for all of our selected agents, brokers and Meridian Branch and corporate partners Administer onboarding discipline and review for all new broker firms ensuring Meridian has the audit information needed to understand who we do business with Conduct education/information sessions with broker firms to ensure full understanding of our niche products and processes Leverage knowledge of credit granting to educate and assist brokers in structuring deals to meet Meridian risk appetite Ensure funding ratios are communicated quarterly to top broker firms and implement remedial action steps for firms not meeting minimum thresholds Conduct regular debrief meetings with the underwriting unit to incorporate feedback into sales processes and address issues promptly Support Meridian’s new branch locations by partnering with Branch Managers to leverage connections in the mortgage broker space Participate in select industry functions to increase exposure and networking Travel across Ontario; at times work extended hours including evenings and weekends Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent selling, influencing, presentation and negotiation skills; ability to earn the confidence of business partners Creative and innovative in maintaining sales and attracting new business Strong time management, organizational, interpersonal and relationship management skills Deep background in all aspects of mortgage origination/application Self-motivated with the initiative to work independently Team player with internal motivation to excel Strong understanding of Excel (pivot tables) Member focus; proactively prioritizes members Proactive with initiative to anticipate needs and provide high service levels Open communication with honest and transparent dialogue Business savviness; continuously apply knowledge to your role Partner orientation; initiates opportunities for collaboration Integrity; acts with openness, honesty and respect Talent developer; supports direct reports and develops team members Creates a supportive and positive team environment that fosters innovation and learning Education, Work Experience, and Certifications Completion of a post-secondary education program required; undergraduate degree or finance-related degree preferred 3+ years of experience managing mortgage brokers or brokerage firms Proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets Ability to travel regularly within the region Familiarity with Loan Origination Systems (LOS) and digital process improvement Location and Travel Office location: St. Catharines Corporate Office; travel as required within Ontario.
