This role offers a unique global tour beginning with a flagship production in Europe before transitioning to lead the permanent studio in Ontario. Job Overview : Head of VFX The Strategic Roadmap The successful candidate will engage in a two-phase leadership rollout designed to integrate them into the 22DOGS ecosystem before taking the reins of the new studio. Phase I: The European Flagship (April – August) The journey begins in our Tenerife, Spain studio. You will step directly into the heat of production as the VFX Supervisor for a flagship Apple TV+ series . During this period, you will: Oversee high-level creative output and ensure technical milestones are met. Act as the face of 22DOGS for network stakeholders and showrunners. Immerse yourself in our proprietary workflows and international culture. Phase II: The Toronto Launch (Late August Onward) Upon returning to Canada, your focus shifts to the executive build-out of the Toronto studio. As the Head of VFX, you will: Studio Architecture: Define the operational and cultural pillars of the Toronto office. Talent Acquisition: Lead the hiring strategy to recruit a world-class team of artists and supervisors. Pipeline Development: Collaborate with global heads to ensure the Toronto pipeline is robust, scalable, and integrated with our European hubs. Business Growth: Partner with executive leadership to engage North American clients and secure premium episodic and feature contracts. Key Responsibilities Creative & Technical Leadership Provide high-level artistic direction across all Toronto-based projects. Maintain a rigorous quality bar, ensuring that every frame delivered meets the 22DOGS Standard. Troubleshoot complex creative hurdles and provide mentorship to senior artists. Operations & Strategy Establish and oversee studio-wide workflows and quality standards. Manage resource allocation and team performance to ensure on-time delivery. Drive the studio’s strategic direction in alignment with global company goals. Client & Stakeholder Management Maintain and deepen relationships with major streaming platforms and theatrical studios. Lead high-level creative discussions and bidding processes. Act as a bridge between production needs and studio capabilities. Required Skills and Experience Industry Tenure: 8+ years of experience in the VFX industry, with a minimum of 3 years in a senior supervisory role (VFX Supervisor, Head of Department, or similar). Artistic Foundation: A strong background in Compositing is essential. You must understand the intricacies of the final image. Project Pedigree: A proven track record of delivering high-end visual effects for premium episodic series (Netflix, Apple TV+, HBO) or major theatrical features. Local Presence: You must be an established resident of Ontario, Canada, with the ability to work in a hybrid capacity from the Toronto studio. Global Mobility: Full availability to be based in Spain for the initial four-month assignment is a mandatory requirement of this role.
