What you’ll do: As the Manager of Global Security and HSE Assurance (Americas), you will lead the strategic development, oversight, and continual improvement of Northland Power’s Security framework for people and operational assets across the global portfolio, and the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Management System across the Americas region. You will ensure the organization meets legal and regulatory obligations while aligning with global HSE standards, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001. You will protect Northland’s renewable energy assets as critical infrastructure, addressing evolving security risks, geopolitical threats, and duty‑of‑care obligations. You will support audits, legal register management, HSE performance reporting, and oversee key HSE management system elements across the Americas portfolio. Travel across Northland’s Americas portfolio will be required to conduct HSSE audits and verifications and to validate compliance with applicable legal requirements and Company HSSE standards. You will lead the development and coordination of people and asset security frameworks to prevent, detect, and respond to security threats affecting employees, contractors, visitors, and energy assets. This position is based in Toronto, where you will also coordinate compliance with HSE and people-security responsibilities applicable to the head office location. Key Responsibilities Security (People & Asset Risk Management) Lead the development, implementation, and continual improvement of the Global Asset and People Security Framework, aligned with Company HSSE standards, duty‑of‑care obligations, and the protection of renewable energy assets as critical infrastructure. Conduct asset‑level security risk assessments across the global operational portfolio (e.g. wind, solar, storage), identifying exposure to sabotage, intrusion, malicious acts, hostile activity, and other relevant threat vectors. Define, support, and validate site‑specific asset security controls, response, and escalation procedures, including coordination with local authorities and emergency services where required. Monitor geopolitical, regional, and threat intelligence relevant to global energy infrastructure, translating insights into practical mitigation measures at asset and regional level. Partner with Operations, Legal, Cyber, Business Continuity, and Crisis Management teams to ensure integrated protection of physical assets, personnel, and operational continuity. Ensure alignment between asset security, people security, and travel risk controls with Company crisis management, emergency response, and resilience frameworks. HSE Management System Development & Oversight Support the design and continual improvement of the Company Global HSE Management System, in alignment with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, and other relevant standards. Ensure consistent integration of HSE governance processes across the Americas portfolio, supporting cross-functional harmonization with quality, ESG, and operational risk frameworks. Maintain oversight of the Company HSE legal register, monitoring regulatory and standards updates and translating impacts into system‑level or procedural changes. Coordinate or fulfill statutory HSE responsibilities for the Toronto head office in line with Canadian federal and provincial legislation (e.g. OHSA). HSE Assurance, Audits & Performance Reporting Lead corporate‑level HSE assurance activities, including internal audits, management system compliance reviews, and ISO readiness assessments across the Americas portfolio. Track and report on HSE audit findings, non-conformities, and corrective action status at the Company level, ensuring consistency and transparency. Coordinate Company-level HSE reporting, including inputs for ESG disclosures, board reports, and external benchmarking (e.g., GRI). Incident Management & Continuous Improvement Provide governance oversight and support for HSE- and security related incident investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented and verified. Facilitate sharing of lessons learned through structured communications. Support rollout and assurance of company HSE and Security programs, campaigns, and initiatives. Qualifications And Experience Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Security management, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum 10 years of experience in managing security, including 3+ years in governance/assurance or corporate HSSE Management Systems roles. Proven experience managing or implementing ISO‑certified Management Systems (ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001); experience with integrated systems is an asset. Experience with security risk management, physical security principles, crisis response, and escalation models for industrial or critical infrastructure assets (energy, utilities, transport, industrials) is a strong asset. Exposure to geopolitical risk, hostile threat environments, or critical‑infrastructure protection is an advantage. Strong understanding of Canadian HSE legislation; experience across other jurisdictions in the Americas is a significant asset. Skilled communicator who can translate regulatory and technical requirements into practical, actionable strategies for a multinational organization. Experience working in a matrixed environment with cross‑functional teams (e.g., operations, legal, ESG, quality). Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and governance/reporting tools. Valid driver’s license. Willingness to travel across the Americas to conduct HSSE audits and verifications (frequency varies by portfolio needs).
