Summary of the role The Hydraulic Design Engineer – Research and Development will support the hydraulic design process through research projects in fluid dynamics and the development of new numerical methods. Also, the candidate will support the personnel related to design of hydraulic passageways of hydro turbines at all stages for both new units, runner replacements and rehabilitation projects. This mandate will include the following: Develop new analytical and numerical methods and tools to support hydraulic design tasks. Definition, development, maintenance, and modification of hydraulic engineering tools and processes Support for bids, including preliminary design and design reviews Analysis of design requirements Development of hydraulic designs for turbine components of various types Collaboration with the hydraulic laboratory team in Linz for model turbine development Working with mechanical engineering and contract hydraulic engineers to ensure the continuous execution of development contracts Why do you fit the profile? Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, preferably with a focus on fluid dynamics; Master’s degree is highly desirable; Ideally, minimum of five (5) years of experience in hydro engineering; Candidate must hold membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or meet the eligibility criteria to obtain such membership; Familiarity with CFD calculations for hydro turbines; Knowledge of commercial and technical aspects of hydro-electric power plant equipment; Creativity, problem solving skills, and demonstrated consistent attention to detail; Strong ability to work in a team environment and excellent communication skills (oral & written); Self-directed; Familiarity with programming, ideally some experience in Linux and Python scripting; Fluency in French and English – spoken and written.
