Google is seeking a Senior Software Development Manager, Security and Intel in Waterloo, ON, Canada. This advanced-level, full-time role is part of the Google Ads Safety organization, focused on building and operating massive-scale threat detection and enforcement services to protect the Google Ads ecosystem. About the Role Software Engineering Managers at Google combine technical expertise with people leadership to drive major projects. In this role, you will lead engineers across multiple teams and locations, manage a large product budget, and oversee deployment of large-scale security systems internationally. You will create technical solutions that detect, assess, and mitigate advanced threats, and lead the technical strategy against the most elusive forms of ads abuse. Responsibilities Drive the intel and security strategy against evolving threats, lead the technical strategy, and make key security developing decisions while building and operating massive-scale detection and enforcement services. Drive the creation of next-generation platforms for security, quality, and speed, enabling the Ads Safety organization to detect and respond to threats in real time. Lead a team of security and software developers and collaborate with security teams across Google. Define and enforce secure‑by‑design principles across ads platforms, embedding proactive security into products. Partner with product teams to integrate security solutions that minimize friction for legitimate advertisers while maximizing disruption for bad actors, and leverage Google's infrastructure and ML capabilities to build highly available, fault‑tolerant software services for threat intelligence, detection, and mitigation. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. 8 years of experience with software development. 7 years of experience building software for security (e.g., application security, malware analysis, threat intelligence). 5 years of experience in a technical leadership rôle. 5 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field. 5 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization. Experience in designing, managing, or contributing to systems for threat detection or anomaly analysis. Experience working with data systems and applying machine learning or AI to solve security problems. Knowledge of web security, ads ecosystems, and adversarial tactics related to content abuse, cloaking, or malware distribution. Compensation The Canada base salary range for this full-time position is CAD $260,000–$267,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
