Calgary Office#202, 701 64 Ave SECalgary, AB T2H 2C3, CAN The Junior Environmental Scientist supports the delivery of environmental assessment, monitoring and remediation projects across a range of regulatory, biophysical, contaminated sites and water resource disciplines. This is an early‑career role ideally suited for a recent graduate who is eager to learn, flexible in approach and motivated to contribute wherever needed to support client and team requirements. Key Responsibilities Technical & Field Support Support the planning and execution of field programs such as environmental site assessments, biophysical surveys, water sampling and environmental monitoring under the guidance of senior staff. Assist with soil, groundwater, surface water and environmental data collection and sampling. Participate in regulatory, contaminated sites and water resource projects, progressively building technical competency. Support groundwater monitoring programs and basic data interpretation. Project & Administrative Support Assist with compiling field notes, organizing data and reviewing laboratory results. Support report preparation, figures and appendices for technical deliverables. Track field time, expenses and contractor activities with accuracy. Carry out work in accordance with project scopes, schedules and quality standards. Learning, Flexibility & Team Contribution Actively seek mentorship and feedback from senior scientists, engineers and project managers. Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to support a variety of tasks and project needs as priorities shift. Contribute positively in a team environment while developing the confidence to work independently on assigned tasks. Uphold MEMS’ safety culture and adhere to all health, safety and environmental requirements. Other duties as assigned. What You Bring Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Water Resources, Geology or a related discipline. Candidates with geology education backgrounds with water‑focused specialization or experience will be considered. Previous co‑op, internship or entry‑level experience in regulatory work, biophysical surveys, contaminated sites or water resources is preferred, but not required. Eligibility or intent to become eligible for membership with a relevant professional association is an asset. Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Interest in environmental management, contaminated sites, regulatory compliance and/or water resources. Basic understanding of environmental fieldwork and data collection principles. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Professional, safety‑conscious attitude with a strong work ethic. Valid Class 5 (non‑GDL) driver’s license. Working Conditions This role can require significant amount of fieldwork, with the incumbent expected to spend up to 70% of their time working at client sites. Field assignments may range from single‑day visits to multi‑day trips lasting up to 10 days and may take place at industrial or commercial facilities, brownfield and greenfield sites, and locations that range from urban to remote. Field activities may include transporting and handling sampling equipment. The position also includes office‑based work requiring prolonged periods of sitting, computer use and manual dexterity for use of standard office equipment. The role may involve long or irregular work hours, including occasional evenings or nights, travel to other locations, and interruptions outside regular working hours. Physical demands of the role include walking, standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling and lifting or moving materials and equipment up to approximately 30 kg, sometimes overhead, with repetitive movements required.
