What Your Day Will Look Like As a Laboratory Archaeologist, you will oversee the processing, analysis, and cataloging of archaeological materials, ensuring work meets professional and regulatory standards.The role supports field archaeologists, project managers, and permit holding archaeologists by maintaining efficient lab workflows, high-quality data management, and consistent treatment of archaeological materials.Collaboration with management, First Nations partners, and other stakeholders will beimportant tomaintainingprofessional, cultural, and safety standards. This rolewill be an office- and field-based position, whereby time is split between executing laboratory responsibilities and working as a field archaeologist, depending on project needs. WhatYou’llbe Responsible for Ensure consistent classification of artifacts and use of catalogues across all projects and offices. Support the upkeep ofan internallab manual. Support the management of artifact intake, cleaning, sorting, labelling, cataloging, andassistwith coordinatinglong-term storage (with designated repositories) asrequired. Maintainaccuraterecords, logs, and digital files Prepare documentation for reports, collection transfers (e.g.to repository), and regulatory submissions Work with heritage management team to ensure consistency and uniformity across lab processes Oversee and conduct daily lab activities, including quality control Maintain lab equipment, supplies, and safety protocols as needed Track labsupplies andrestock/ make purchases as needed Technical leadership and mentorship within a team environment Fostering positive relationships with local communities, Indigenous groups, governmentalagenciesand other partners. What Will Help You Succeed: Our ideal candidate has three to five years of experience in archaeological laboratories or cultural resource management, with strong skills in artifact processing, cataloging, and analysis. You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Strong communication, time management, and problem-solving skills will be key to your success in this role. You will helpmaintainlab standards, ensure accuracy, and support junior staff through mentorship and guidance. Familiarity with cultural heritage legislation and digital cataloguing tools is an asset. This role requires a bachelor’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, ora relatedfield. Coursework in archaeological lab methods is an asset. Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience in an archaeological laboratory, or a cultural resource management (CRM) environment Demonstratedexperienceprocessing, cataloguing, and analyzing artifacts from multiple material classes (lithics, ceramics, faunal remains, metals, organics, historic materials). Strong knowledge of archaeological lab methods, artifactidentification, andcataloging and artifact types. Specialized lab analysisskillset (e.faunal analysis,historics, etc.) is an asset. Familiar with best practices/ industry standards for artifact photography. Excellent organizational and time ‑ management abilities. Proficiencywith digitalcataloguingtools/ database and/ or catalog management.
