Specialist, Electrical Designer Ref #: 37726 Waterdown, Ontario About the Role The electrical engineering department designs, develops, modifies, evaluates, and integrates electronic equipment, parts, components, and integrated circuitry for complex, high‑performance hardware systems. Responsibilities include determining design approaches and parameters, analyzing electrical requirements for feasibility, configuring programmable logic devices using high‑level programming languages, conducting experimental tests, evaluating results, selecting components based on specifications and reliability, and maintaining engineering design practices, processes, and standards. Primary Responsibilities Architecture and development of assigned projects and hardware subsystems. Generation of hardware artifacts including requirements, schematics, BOMS, PCB design, and fabrication documentation. Bench validation of hardware subsystems. Support product integration and qualification of hardware subsystems. Participate in determining, estimating, and managing project tasks with team members. Schedule, conduct, or actively participate in technical design reviews to ensure design integrity. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to new hires and junior Electrical Engineers. Support the development and maintenance of engineering design practices, processes, and standards. Provide required metrics, reports, and performance measures to the Manager. Troubleshoot technical problems on production and customer equipment. Provide technical support to other areas of the organization, including Manufacturing Engineering, Bids and Proposals, and Marketing related to the assigned project. Develop a strong presence across engineering and other business areas to maximize collaboration and synergy to meet project goals. Watch for new technologies and leadership trends that may impact current and future product development. Complete other tasks and projects as assigned by the Manager. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of relevant experience; Graduate Degree and minimum 2 years, or 8 years of experience in lieu of a degree. Preferred Capabilities Strong technical contributor across a wide range of problems and multiple developments. Design, implementation, and validation of complex electrical subsystems and products. Practical knowledge of circuit card and wiring harness development and manufacturing processes. Practical analytical skills with focus on simulation of design concepts. Skillful debugging and testing of systems. Experience with modern CAD, simulation and analysis tools (SI Wave, Hyperlinx, PSpice, MATLAB). Experience with industry‑standard schematic design and PCB layout tools (ORCAD, Allegro). Broad knowledge of electronic components (e.g., Xilinx FPGA). Knowledge of various military and industry standards related to airborne, marine and ground systems (MIL‑STD 704, 461, and 1275). Meet the requirements of the Controlled Goods Registration Program and be eligible for a Canadian government security clearance (NATO Secret). Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Desire for continuous learning within a fast‑paced environment. Pay range for this position: $85,500 - $135,500 (Ontario, Canada).
