Ballard is an international public company traded on both the NASDAQ and TSX.Overview The Ballard Finance Team is seeking aSenior Financial Accountant , a technically strong and highly adaptable accounting professional to join our finance team. This role is ideal for an “all-rounder” who is comfortable operating across multiple areas of corporate finance and accounting, including external and internal reporting, technical accounting, treasury support, and fixed assets. The successful candidate will combine strong analytical skills with the ability to communicate complex accounting matters clearly through high-quality written memoranda. The position reports to the Corporate Controller.ResponsibilitiesResearching and preparing accounting analysis memos in compliance with IFRS for accounting transactions, including, but not limited to complex revenue recognition transactions and acquisition/investment transactionsStaying up-to-date on IFRS changes and supporting accounting impact assessments for new standards or business changesSupporting monthly, quarterly, and year-end close including consolidation, note disclosure, and other publicly disclosed documents such as Management’s Discussion & Analysis, Management Proxy Circular and Annual Information FormPreparing monthly financial reports and analysis, including detailed analysis of balance sheet accounts, income statement, and statement of cash flowsSupporting full cycle fixed asset accountingLiaising with various banks and reviewing the administration, setup, and maintenance of Ballard’s bank accounts and banking systems, including setup in Oracle ERPProviding accounting support to European subsidiary including preparation/review of account reconciliations and leading year-end statutory auditCompiling and analyzing data to support financial analysis and reportingReviewing, documenting, and implementing internal controls for responsible areas in compliance with SOX and ensuring that relevant processes are aligned to SOXOpportunities to work on other ad hoc and special projects, as neededRequirementsProfessional accounting designation (CPA - CA or CGA)Minimum 5 years working experience in accounting, preferably public company audit experiencePublic company reporting and experience with multi-currency companies is requiredStrong technical accounting skills (IFRS), including experience researching and analyzing complex IFRS issuesExceptional communication skills both written and verbalExcellent interpersonal skillsExcellent analytical abilities with high attention to detailTakes ownership and is results oriented, with a focus on qualityStrong software skills with both accounting systems and the Microsoft suite of products. Advanced Excel skills required.
