Superintendent, Environmental Integrated Programs Trail, BC Onsite Permanent Introduction The Superintendent, Environmental Integrated Systems provides strategic leadership for environmental planning and improvement across a large industrial operation. It oversees a team of environmental specialists and works closely with multiple internal functions to advance long‑term environmental performance. Key areas of responsibility include reducing air emissions, strengthening water‑related risk management, addressing legacy environmental liabilities through remediation, supporting biodiversity and aquatic monitoring programs, and advising on matters related to company‑owned lands. The position also plays a central role in building and sustaining relationships with external stakeholders, including local communities, Indigenous groups, and regulatory authorities at both the provincial and federal levels. The role is closely aligned with a complementary leadership position focused on environmental operations, which manages day‑to‑day compliance, permitting, monitoring, reporting, and support for operational projects. Responsibilities Demonstrate strong and visible leadership in health, safety, and environmental stewardship, including sponsorship of applicable rules, standards, and procedures. Lead annual planning processes and manage effective control of large, multi‑million‑dollar operating and capital budgets. Oversee environmental remediation programs in accordance with applicable contaminated site regulations for areas affected by historical industrial activities. Direct groundwater remediation projects addressing impacts associated with legacy operations. Implement and maintain a large‑area remediation framework to address community and environmental impacts related to historical air emissions across surrounding lands. Advance ecosystem and biodiversity management initiatives to address impacts to nearby natural areas, working closely with land management and planning functions. Represent the organization on local health and environment committees and ensure delivery of commitments related to community health and exposure‑reduction programs. Implement aquatic monitoring programs to assess and manage the health of nearby water bodies affected by industrial operations. Develop and execute strategies to further reduce community exposure to air contaminants, balancing evolving regulatory requirements with operational needs. Lead initiatives to reduce ambient concentrations of priority substances in surrounding communities, with particular focus on protecting vulnerable populations. Develop and implement risk management strategies for water‑retaining structures and stormwater management infrastructure. Implement noise monitoring and mitigation measures to minimize exceedances of community nuisance thresholds. Requirements Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive leadership experience in heavy industry (e.g., smelting and refining, mining operations) and strategic resource management Bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering field related to environmental management, or equivalent experience Understanding of Teck Trail Operations or comparable smelting facilities is considered an asset Proven leadership, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills Excellent project management experience with a track record that includes management and/or technical direction of multiple environmental projects.
