Winnipeg, Manitoba Manager of Business Unit (BU) Accounting The Manager of Business Unit (BU) Accounting is an operational lead responsible for ensuring the precision, timeliness, and integrity of financial processes, primarily focusing on revenue, inventory, cost of sales, and operating expense accounting. This role is designed for an accounting professional who thrives in a collaborative team environment. The role will lead an established, knowledgeable accounting team, overseeing their daily workflow to ensure that all tasks—from inventory valuation to multi-departmental accruals—are completed with accuracy. A key component of this role is serving as a primary communication bridge, building professional rapport across Operations, FP&A, and other functional accounting areas to ensure seamless financial transparency. Key Job Responsibilities Operational Oversight & Accuracy: Oversee the daily activities of the BU accounting team to ensure accuracy in financial reporting, including the review of inventory, cost of sales, operating expenses, and revenue recognition. Controls & Compliance: Work effectively to incorporate and monitor internal controls within the BU accounting workflow. You will ensure all team workpapers, journal entries, and reconciliations are prepared accurately. Functional Collaboration: Build and maintain strong professional rapport with Operations, FP&A, and other functional accounting departments. You will utilize strong verbal communication skills to resolve discrepancies and align on financial reporting considerations. Team Management: Lead and manage a professional accounting team. You will be responsible for workload prioritization, mentoring staff, and fostering a collaborative environment where team members feel supported and accountable. Financial Close & Audit Support: Orchestrate the monthly and quarterly close cycles to meet public company reporting timelines. You will coordinate with internal and external auditors to provide necessary documentation and ensure a smooth review process. Policy & Process Documentation: Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the BU accounting processes. While accuracy is the priority, you will identify areas for process improvement and potential automation within our ERP tools (Workday) to enhance existing workflows. Financial Analysis: Review and rationalize standardized business unit reporting, providing clear analysis of variances to assist management in understanding business performance. Minimum Education And/or Experience Required For The Job CPA Designation is Required. Professional Experience: 5 - 10 years of experience in accounting. Management Experience: At least 3 years of experience managing individual team members or a group. Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance. Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Strong Verbal Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with all levels of the organization, specifically when collaborating with partners in other functional accounting departments, FP&A and Operations. Effective Team Management: Proven ability to manage a team's output, meet competing deadlines, and provide clear direction in a fast-paced environment. Detail-Oriented Precision: High level of organization and attention to detail. You are comfortable performing a review of financial spreadsheets and data to ensure total accuracy. Confidence & Assertiveness: Ability to enforce financial guidelines and internal control standards while maintaining positive, productive relationships across the organization. Advanced Computer Literacy: Proficiency in Excel (advanced formulas and data management) is required to review team workpapers. Preferred Education And/or Experience System Knowledge: Experience with Workday or a similar cloud-based ERP is preferred. Experience in full-cycle accounting and the month-end close process is preferred, along with specific knowledge of inventory, cost of sales, and revenue accounting. Control Environment: Familiarity with and experience operating within a strong internal controls environment is considered a strong asset. Compensation Details Salary $100,000 - $130,000 / Year Supplemental Pay Compensation is commensurate with skill, education and experience.
