Description The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for driving a ‘safety first’ culture at CGT by acting as an ambassador for CGT’s Health, Safety and Environmental programs in accordance with the company’s vision and values. Focus will be on the implementation, maintenance and direction of all health and safety related programs and training, incident investigation, and coordination of Health Centre activities (critical injury response, first aid, employee wellness) for the Cambridge facility with the goal of reducing workplace hazards, health risks and cost while complying with all legislative requirements. Areas of Responsibility include: In collaboration with the Manager, EHS, the EHS Coordinator will have the following responsibilities: Coordinate, implement and administer all required safety, health and environmental programs to ensure compliance with legislation, internal policies and/or the Collective Agreement. He/she will also assist in the development of these programs Conduct all new hire safety orientation for the Cambridge site and manage our training system for required refresher training on various topics, in addition to scheduling training with 3rd party providers when necessary In conjunction with EHS manager, develop and manage internal incident/accident reporting and tracking system and conduct various analyses to identify trends, opportunities, issues, and assist in the establishment and management of appropriate action plans Work with the leadership team to review accident/incident investigations, determine root cause and recommend and/or implement corrective actions and ensure follow up to confirm completion Active member of JHSC. Provide administrative support to JHSC with scheduling of audits, meetings, preparation and distribution of monthly meeting minutes, follow‑up on action plans, etc. Coordinate the collection of EHS performance metrics and prepare reports as required Manage and monitor Workplace Safety and Insurance Board claims and correspondence, and conduct reviews of claims for entitlement, recurrences, Second Injury and Enhancement Fund (SIEF) opportunities, and the transferring of costs Coordinate employee health surveillance evaluations as required by company polices, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and legal requirements Management of Early and Safe Return to Work incidents for WSIB related claims: Identify jobs within functional capabilities, develop and manage RTW plans, coordinate RTW meetings with appropriate representatives, etc. Assess, develop and co‑ordinate the review of all jobs to maintain position‑specific physical demands analysis (PDA’s). Coordinating outside ergonomic resources to maintain PDA accuracy and drives/manages departmental changes for ergonomic improvements Coach employees, supervisors and management on Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Policy and Procedures, WSIB Management best practices and principles, as well as OHSA Assist EHS Manager in maintaining CGT’s Environmental/ Safety Management System and related programs, preparation for and management of both internal and external ISO 14001/ ISO45001 audits and corresponding actions Working with Departments to coordinate collection of hazardous waste using one of our approved waste carriers and manage manifest completion with team members Required Qualifications, Education & Experience: Knowledge & Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience in a 24/7 manufacturing/industrial environment. Union experience is preferred but not required Sound knowledge of various Health, Safety & Environmental legislation and ISO requirements Minimum 2 years experience in WSIB case management with knowledge of law and policy, return to work planning, best practices Ideally, have training and education in Ergonomics and or Kinesiology Skills & Abilities: Work ethic: Possesses a strong willingness to work hard and do what it takes to get the job done Communication: Speaks and writes clearly and articulately with all forms of communication (in‑person, email, etc.) Listening Skills: Lets others speak and seeks to understand their viewpoints Confidentiality/Trust: Must possess and display a high level of confidentiality - building and maintaining the trust and respect of employees is essential for success Calm under pressure: Maintains stability and diffuses stressful situations Flexibility/Adaptability: Adjusts quickly to changing priorities and conditions.
