AXA XL is an Equal Opportunity Employer.Associate Legal Counsel – Toronto, Ontario or Montreal, Quebec ResponsibilitiesServe as legal and regulatory counsel to underwriters of commercial lines underwriting business units, providing timely legal advice and guidance on a wide range of insurance/reinsurance and corporate issues.Draft, review and negotiate a large variety of commercial contracts, including producer, program administrator, confidentiality, third‑party administrator, vendor, indemnity, broker, and similar agreements.Review marketing material.Provide legal advice with respect to complex insurance structures and policy terms and conditions.Collaborate effectively with internal operational areas, including Operations, Marketing, and Claims.Retain outside counsel and manage non‑claims litigation involving the company.Communicate clearly to regulators and manage regulatory reporting requirements.Research and analyze a wide range of insurance and non‑insurance legal and compliance issues.Report to: Head of Legal for Insurance and Reinsurance Canada.Qualifications & SkillsLaw degree from an accredited Canadian law school and licensed attorney in at least one Canadian province.Intermediate level in‑house or law firm experience in a Canadian commercial property and casualty insurance company.Knowledge of Canadian insurance laws and regulations; experience working as a trusted adviser to business clients and interacting with Canadian insurance regulators.Cross‑border experience a plus; broad experience with multiple lines of business.Strong leadership skills, including mentoring, setting and communicating expectations, and holding oneself and others accountable for timely results.Strategic thinker and facilitator of discussions with colleagues at all levels of seniority; experience leading large‑scale, complex legal and regulatory matters.Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation and presentation skills; French verbal and written communication skills are an asset.Compensation and Benefits The Canada base salary range for this position is CAD 120,000 to 160,000. Actual pay is determined based on the individual’s skills, experience and location.
