What Is The Opportunity? Aecon is hiring for the Port of Montreal Contrecœur Terminal Expansion – the largest port expansion project in Canadian history. This nation‑building project increases container capacity by 60 % and shapes the future of Canadian trade. If you desire to work on complex marine and heavy civil construction alongside industry leaders, this is where your impact truly matters. What You Will Do Here Act as the Health & Safety (H&S) reference on the construction site and support project management in implementing best practices in health and safety. Deploy, apply, and ensure compliance with the H&S Prevention Program in accordance with CNESST requirements, contractual obligations, and corporate standards. Identify, analyze, and control critical risks associated with heavy construction work (civil engineering, marine works, lifting operations, excavation, equipment traffic, concurrent activities). Conduct daily field inspections, H&S audits, and behavioral observations, and ensure follow‑up on corrective actions. Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses; analyze root causes; and recommend sustainable preventive measures. Lead and coordinate H&S committees, toolbox meetings, training sessions, and awareness activities for site teams and subcontractors. Maintain a proactive presence in the field to promote a “zero accident” culture. Work closely with project, engineering, construction, and subcontractor teams to integrate H&S considerations into work planning. Produce H&S reports, performance indicators (KPIs), and statistics required by management and stakeholders. Act as a coach and mentor to more junior H&S advisors when required. What You Bring To The Team 7 to 10 years of experience in health and safety on major construction projects, ideally in civil engineering, heavy infrastructure, port, or industrial projects. Degree in occupational health and safety, engineering, environment, or a related field. Excellent knowledge of Québec H&S legislation (CNESST) and standards applicable to large‑scale construction sites. Proven experience working in complex construction environments with high levels of concurrent activities and multiple subcontractors. Relevant H&S certifications (ASP Construction, first aid, lockout/tagout, confined spaces, etc.). Strong leadership in the field, natural authority, influencing skills, and sound judgment. Excellent communication skills and strong report‑writing abilities. Required fluency in French; functional English is an asset. Availability to work full‑time on the construction site.
